Best place to pull amp power in Cooper S? Front or Rear?

I have a 400W RMS amp that I'm installing, but can't fathom where the best way to get power from. The amp is going under the front passenger seat, so I'm hoping to pull from the terminal in the front near the air intake.

Will that work, or have most of you been pulling directly from the battery? I'm using 8 gauge wiring.

Assuming we are talking about an R53, I would pull power directly from the battery in the rear. It's a more direct run and you don't have to deal with the firewall.
