Pioneer AVIC N1 install advice

Just received my N1 unit yesterday. Now waiting on parts from the UK that will interface the MFSW and HU to Harmon Kardon setup.

I'd like to understand any pitfalls from those of you that have already gone through an install.

Did you basically just use the same slot from the old HU or did you use the cage that came with the N1?

Did you require any extensions for the cables to the hideaway unit?

Where did you place the GPS antenna?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I've yet to install an N1 in a MINI, but I've done a few in other cars.

You will need to get a mounting kit for the MINI and use the mounting sleeve that comes with the N1.

The hideaway unit will fit nicely under the pass or driver seat. (Thats where I have my XM module) There should be plenty of cable to reach. Just make sure the arrows on the unit point toward the front and rear of the car.

Generally, the GPS antenna will work better out on the roof, but in most applications, the dashboard will work fine.

wkndracr,

Thanks for the input. I just finished putting the hideaway unit under the pass seat. The speed pulse and reverse wires are hooked up. The antenna extension, GPS antenna, and the 30 pin cable were run to the front and are coming out and laying on the floor. I'm waiting for the adapters to arrive from MikeytheMini.

Adapter for the MFSW and Harmon Kardon interfacing. Hopefully they'll arrive tomorrow so I can get this install wrapped up.

What mounting kit are you speaking of? You can't just use the cage that came with the HU?

Also I read where you can put the antenna in the dash. The exact words were "take off the end cap on your drivers side & you will be able to slide it in with some double sided sticky". Any idea what this means?

Thanks again.
