Help understanding?
I am awaiting my F56 S. I ordered connected but not XL (as I Never use the features on my current R56 S). I got so frustrated waiting for a way to hook up my old iPhone 5 that I eventually just got an iPod and the y cable and have used that for years.
On the new car I was thinking I could use that now retired iphone 5 in the armrest. I rarely use the phone in the car so will just Bluetooth it when I do.
So can I get an adaptor for the iPhone 5 and leave it in the armrest full time? It has wifi but no cell service. I have my old mini connected app on that phone. I would mostly listen to iTunes but would like to try out the othe options like pandora, etc.
I do have a new iPhone but it is the 6plus with a flip cover so it will never fit in the armrest I'm sure, I don't really care, though. Most of my trips in the MINI are errands, in and out of the car, so hooking the iPhone up every time I get in and out is never gonna happen.

Hey Annette!
It is possible for you to use your old iPhone 5 in the car while connected to the dock inside the armrest, however, keep in mind that you new iPhone 6+ has to have the "hotspot" feature enabled in order to create a WiFi network that your old iPhone 5 can connect to.
You have to also think about the cost of the dock that accepts your iPhone 5 in the armrest (about $200) and I'm not sure if the iPhone 5 will connect automatically to the iPhone 6+ as soon as you enter the car.
All of this is considering that you leave you "hotspot" feature on all the time. If you don't, you will have to remember to turn it on every time you get in the car and off when you get out.
You can use iTunes, Pandora, Spotify or any other music service without physically connecting the iPhone to the car (just use bluetooth streaming). You will not, however, be able to see the same interface that you see when you use MINI Connected.
If you have any more questions, fire away! I just got (today!!) my 2015 Cooper S with Navigation XL and since I work at a MINI dealership I have access to any other configuration to try things out for you.
