Add a Sub Woofer?

Hello,
I just purchased a leftover 2014 Mini Cooper S Cpe (F56) from my local Mini dealership.

It has the Harmon Kardon system which they said has 12 speakers .
I am starting to feel like i'D like to boost the low end frequencies with a 8" Bazooka I have in the garage.

My "thinking" is if I can find where the amp output side is located as well which colors that are designated for the low-end rear speakers are I could tap into them to get signal.

Am I looking at this right, I ask because Im not very formula with fiber optic radios?

Does anyone know where I can find the amp in the vehicle, and what the color wires are for the rear low-end wiring is?

Thanks for any direction offered.

JW

I"m no help, but I think the bass speakers are the lower ones in the doors down by your feet. The ones in the back are considered "filler". I think the reason no response is this forum is not looked at. Try the main F56 forum you'll have better luck. Or even the Audio Nav forum on the R56 2nd Gen Mini. Vendors go there, and they might be able to help with this stereo because it might be similar to prior Minis.

The amp is located in the rear driver side hatch area. If you pull the tail light access panel you will see the amp. The "subs" in the Harmon Kardon system are located under the front seats. They are a flat plate style sub. You will need to get some form of interface to use for signal to an aftermarket amp. Audio Control makes a few different options that work well, JL Audio makes the "Clean Sweep", JBL has the MS-8 and if you so choose the extreme top of the spectrum there is the Audison components. I would recommend a newer sub than the bazooka tube. JL offers a flat sub that is offered powered and non, I am looking at using a Sundown Audio SD-3 8 or 10 in a sealed enclosure flush in rear.
Are you looking to use the stock amp to power your tube? I'm not sure how that would work out, and if you are trying to use the speaker level inputs for an external amp you need one of the L.O.C.s that I referenced above since they can channel sum the amplified signals into a signal low level output to feed an amp.

I have posted some pretty comprehensive wiring diagrams on some other treads. I've remodeled my entire system. One word of warning. When you increase the bass the asd sound makes the car sound like it has a free flow exhaust. I would recommend you bypass it by using a harness or reprogramming it not to work.

Since you already have a Bazooka Sub why not put it in and see what you think!!!! and then go from there...

I added a JL 10TW3 sub in a small, flat, sealed box with a Kenwood 300-watt micro amp to my Justa with HK system. PM me for more details. Very easy to do; note that I don't have to deal with the ASD in the base Cooper, but I'm sure there's a way around that.

Ended up soldering to the cigarette lighter.
On another note, is the 10ga red 12v hot input strong enough to splice into for amp power?
I already did take the time to run a 30a fused 8ga power line to my battery but was just wondering if that hot 12v was good enough.

let me try to explain what i did

Using rows 18-25 from my spreadsheet, i connected a BIT TEN which gave me the line level outputs needed to run my rca to my alpine pdx 9, I ran my own 4ga wire from the engine to power the amp, but used rows 27 and 28 as the power and ground for the BIT TEN respectively. i used row 26 as the remote turn on lead to the BIT TEN. i connected rows 2 - 15 to the output of my amp

Pics of sub/amp install, 2014 Cooper with hK

Pics hopefully to help out those who have asked.

After running power from the battery and grounding the amp to a chassis point, all you need to do is tap the two pairs of subwoofer wires (black/red, black/brown) (blue/red, blue/brown), run to an amp that has an auto-sensing turn on OR to something like I used (AX-MLOC725) that kicks out a 12 volt remote signal to the amp.

I used a small form-factor Kenwood mono amp to make install stealth and easy.
After you do that, plug and play a sub of your desire.

FYI, I first tried a bass shaker on the amp before going the JL sub. It certainly added a significant rumble, but I wanted some additional SPL along with my butt-shaking.
If anyone's interested in it, I have it new in the box. Sonic Immersion made it for Rockford Fosgate a few years back, and still sells it today as the VT200 IBeam Transducer.

My suggestion: find a reputable stereo shop that's done this. Why experiment when you can hire a pro? This should not cost that much.

That may be true but isn't that the whole point with MINI's - DIY customisation. I love that this group has been adventurous and are prepared to try to "give it a shot". This is what makes these cars feel truly special and "ours".

for me, I just added a custom 10" sub and amp off the HK hi level wiring. Clarion 10" with Alpine V450 amp. I used a Scosche Hi-Level to rca LOC that has a builtin remote turnon. I didn't touch the stock HK system or speakers.
I'm happy with the way it sounds.

1. The HK amp is in a box in storage in case hell freezes over and I rid of the mini.
2. i found connecting only the woofers under the seats and the left and right 4" mids and .75" tweets gave a great front stage.
3. ASD is bad and there are tons of post on how to kill it.
4. no change to the HK speakers
5. nope

basically i have 7 total speakers
2 tweets
2 mids
2 woofers
1 sub woofer,

i tuned each speaker accordingly with the bit ten.

Cheers.

You will have to take the HK amp out of retirement if Mini are going to update your firmware. Of there are components missing or there are faults showing up through canbus....they will stop the update. On my MCS I kept the HK amp "plugged in" so it was still visible. Same with the mechanical ASD bypass....you bypass the signal but keep the unit online so Canbus can see it.
I love what you did BTW. Great work!

help

What is not clear to me, is the wiring required for my Powered Subwoofer.

I need to know, what is the Left and Right Channel wiring that I should use, for the line in on my Subwoofer. Typically, it shows (for the Subwoofer input) a Left Channel HOT (+) and Left Channel Ground (-), as well as a Right Channel HOT (+) and Right Channel Ground (-).

These four pinouts from the schematic above are not clear to me.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks
