Under-seat subwoofers (Kenwood vs. Clarion)

After making a 6000+ miles trip around the country, I realized how precious the trunk space is in the little MINI. I'm currently using Infinity BassLink, which I'm very satisfy with its bass performance. However, I feel that I can use the extra boot space where the BassLink currently resides. I'm considering of replacing it with Kenwood KSC-WA62RC or Clarion SRV303, mounted under the seat. Suggestions, please?

I am intrested in this as well. I wonder if you can put two in. One under the drivers seat and one under the passenger seat. I have a two year old so space is a premium and I can't afford to lose any trunk space.

Will both of these fit under the front seats without mods? Can this be hooked up to the sock stereo? Thanks

ScooterBoy has the Clarion in his car - see his install here:

I have heard it and there is not very much bass from it - certainly nothing of the stomach affecting kind ...

In the end I guess you have to move air to make bass - big diameter speaker cone and/or big travel ...

Very interesting product I sure would be curious to hear what a set of these would sound like. If anything maybe you can get a real satisfying buzzzzz!

I wonder how it does with hemeroids?

The only mod required is to remove the styrofoam under the carpet, which will house 1 sub unit. Hence, 2 subs can be placed under the seats, one under the driver and other under the passenger. Since it has speaker level input, it can get the signal from the speaker output of the stock radio.

As Ian said, I do have the Clarion and it is not a powerhouse. It does a fairly good job of "filling in" the low end, but the only hard thumping will be directly on the posterior on the person sitting over it. One under each seat would be pretty good! I believe the Kenwood has the same wattage as the Clarion.

That said, I still recommend it if enhancing the bass is all you're after.

I DO NEED TO GIVE OUT THIS WARNING:. The Clarion sub needs to be positioned in the cavity as far as possible toward the middle of the car, so the seat can be reinstalled and the outside seat rail not affected. However, the forward-back adjustment still ended up a little "sticky". It worked, but you could feel a little drag while sliding the seat. There was some slight pressure from the carpet being pushed up a little further than normal. I decided I could live with it.

It remained like this for almost a year, then a month ago the seat wouldn't slide forward or back anymore - it was stuck. The height adjustment and seat back angle adjustment still worked fine.

I had MINI look at it and they said there was just enough pressure on the underside of the sliding mechanism (on the INWARD rail) that it eventually distorted it so it locked up. I'll need a new seat rail and sliding mechanism to fix it.

So I still recommend the Clarion sub for moderate bass enhancement but when I get my seat rail replaced, I'll be putting spacers under the seat rails where the 4 bolts attach it to the floor. I figure 1/2 inch should raise the seat enough to keep it clear. It's either that or carve out some of the foam on the underside of the carpet above the subwoofer so it doesn't interfere with the sliding mechanism.
