SAT NAV screen on but not working

Hey everyone, So this past Friday I picked up my first mini. It's a 2003 MCS and I absolutely love it. She needs a little bit of loving because it seems like the last owner tried to change a few things and didn't do a very good job.

Anyway this particular mini has a sat nav but doesn't seem to be working. I can tell it's on because when the door is open or the lights are on you can see the glow from the back of the screen however it doesn't display anything. Does anyone have an idea how to fix the screen? it's not a major deal breaker because if i can't get it to work I plan on setting up a tablet interface down the road...

any input is welcome
Thanks,
Roo

Ok, I saw the gps system under the seat while cleaning. I'll have to check that out after work. Just in case there isn't a disc in, is that something I can just buy or do I need to purchase one from the dealer?

Its a disc that inserts into the driver / reader under the seat. While you are at it you can get the latest split screen update for the system.

I have this a the latest part 2014 for the CD ( Not DVD ) based driver system.

Not sure WHY the disc would be missing....they are freely copied and traded...not much value.
The GPS system...often the drive fails...
Some early GPS systems used a cd, some a DVD....
I would honestly expect the GPS system to be dead...many fail, and 10 years of heat/cold....
F your plans is to remove it....I would not mess with it...it is a dated system...your old smartphone...the one from 5 years ago can do more...has more memory...More power, and better logic...

Wow, thank you guys for the quick responses. Looks like I have a few things I can try then. If it has just died over time I may try to set up some sort of removable/mobile tablet interface so I can load music/movies and just use my phone for gps(when needed)

The problem is not the map disc. It would still show a message on the screen to insert the disc.

Check the condition of your car battery. A low battery can prevent the Nav computer from starting up. Also check your fuses -- the Nav computer is on a different fuse from the display.
