iphone 5 to R3 aux in

i have a 2006 cooper S with the aux in cable.

been using it with my iphone 4 for a long time with a great y cable, usb ligher charger and the 3.5 mm going to the stereo aux. threw this all in a little bracket for easy docking.

this is line out. it worked great, until...

now i have an iphone 5s. i'm reading all the hassles people are getting trying to get line out.

i got a basic (cheap) 30 pin dock to lightning connector. this works great on my computer for power and data using a regular cable. but it does not work with the Y connector. power does not pass through. audio just plays through phone speaker. lame.

anyone have better luck? i don't really want to go the headphone jack method.

thanks in advance.

I don't know if this will help but it's worth a try. http://www.fasttech.com/products/0/1...-adapter-for-i

thanks, that might be the way i need to go. but it will be headphone out instead of line out, with different impedance and all.

Lightening is much more advanced.

The combination of the possibly partially populated charger (FireWire or USB?) plus the lack of a USB host to configure the lightening's dynamically assigned pins may be preventing you from charging.

For the audio, there is no analogue audio on lightening, it's either digital audio or USB data.

I believe apple have a lightening to 30 pin that includes a D/A for analogue audio.

For the impedance issue, the aux in will be 300-600R and the headphone out will be designed to handle that load. It's low impedances that would be an issue.

The apple brand dock-to-lightning adapters work fine with 2nd gen y-cables, so probably will work with your setup.

The ones with the (actually very short) extension cable are nice with the gen-2 y cables which are also very short.

I went to Cablejive and bought this. I then wired a 12v DC adapter under the front bolster...the USB goes into a USB/12v adapter and the other end goes into the Aux port. I then bought the Apple 30-pin to lightening adapter. Finally, I have a Proclip iPhone 5 mount that accepts the lightening adapter.

Works like a champ.
