Bluetooth + Navigation Question

I tried doing a search for this, but I was unable to find anything.

I just picked up my 2006 MCS yesterday. The previous owner said that he never bothered messing with the bluetooth function for the phone because he was told by the original owner whom he bought it from that since the car had the navigation option that the bluetooth function wouldn't work.

Is this accurate information? I was really hoping to be able to pair my phone with the bluetooth but I guess I'll have to explore different options. Does this mean my car doesn't have bluetooth and it just has the button?

Thanks for the help!

For clarification: The car has the phone button on the steering wheel and has the OEM navigation unit.

I'm curious about that myself. I just bought a 07 MCS with a phone button on the steering wheel... but I can't figure out how to pair my phone with it. I also have navigation.

Bluetooth

It is my understanding that different cell phones use different bluetooth protocols. That said some cell phones work with Mini and others do not work. There is a link here to a spreadsheet on the forum of many that work as well as at MiniUSA.com.

If not some hands free device by Parrot, Motorola, or Jabra might help.

It is very complicated and frustrating but often the protocols work with only major cell phones. Mini tends to be very iPhone friendly. But there are others that work.

It is very unlikely that your 07 has Bluetooth. If you have the multifunction steering wheel (with radio and cruise control buttons), it includes the phone button whether or not your car actually has Bluetooth.

Bluetooth was unavailable as a factory option in 07. Later MINI released a very expensive ($1000+ installed) Bluetooth retrofit. Bluetooth+USB became available as a factory option starting in 08. If you want Bluetooth, your best choice is to look at aftermarket modules.

Correct, it only has the button for same reason as I posted for Mike -- it's just there by default on all steering wheels that have control buttons).

In a 2006, the problem with Bluetooth and Nav is integration with the Nav screen (displaying contacts, incoming calls, etc). The only system that integrates fully is the MINI OEM Bluetooth: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-retrofit.html. If you aren't willing to go that route (expensive, and complicated installation), there are aftermarket Bluetooth kits that have their own display and work independently of the Nav.

Thanks rkw for getting back to me. You're right... I'm pretty sure I don't have Bluetooth either. It's really not a big deal for me, and I'll probably not get it added after-market as well. I'll just have to live with the phone button staring at me while driving around.
