Just bought a 2002 Mini Cooper with Navigation, and am wondering if I could swap out the CD system underneath the seat with a DVD system to get a full North America navigation in a single Disc.

So, anyone try it yet?

sck_nogas,

Aloha from Hawaii and welcome to NAM.
I'm not sure about the swap. If you want to add DVD to the NAV screen then read on.

Your NAV screen in the centerdash has a built in high res 5" screen that may show DVD video.
The solution is NAVTV which is a TV tuner installed under the passenger seat which can pick up TV signals and send them to your NAV screen. Then to get DVD you replace your stock head unit CD player with a DVD player (no built in screen) and send the DVD signal to the aux port of the NAV TV tuner.

While the image on the NAV screen is sharp, it is smaller than that of flip up DVD screens but the look of the dash is cleaner and there is less to go wrong with your DVD player (cheaper without the flip up screen which runs about $1500+). The NAV TV is over $1295 plus it costs for installation. The audio runs over your stock stereo system.

Mahalo, (I'm in Oahu for the next 4 days so I can speak Hawaiian!)

But, I was thinking about replacing the Navigation CD player underneath the passenger seat in my 2002 Mini which can only hold a copule of states of data with a 2003 or newer DVD version of it, which has the whole US & Canada on it.

From what MINIUSA told us when we looked into it (as we have a 2003 and were promised the DVD system...and got the CD one)....it can't be done....

Frankly, I don't understand why...but it isn't supposed to be possible without totally ripping out the whole thing and starting over....but then again...

Hugs,
PB
