Crazy HK Speaker Issue?

This is a weird one. Yesterday morning coming to work I heard what I thought was an interior panel creak in my Roadster coming from either the passenger door or the panel behind the passenger seat. After a few miles it quit. Going home yesterday afternoon it was back and I realized the "creak" was happening in sync with sound from my HK system and at the time I was listening to an audio book from my iPod attached to the Y-cable. I also noticed the rear fade seemed to increase and decrease slightly a couple of time. I don't crank up the bass or volume and it was at normal settings. I turned off the system and the rattle/creak stopped so I assumed I had a split/broken speaker. After I turned the unit back on, the noise continued the entire 30 miles home. This morning coming in to work, the rattle/creak had stopped and didn't show up one single time during my 30 mile commute. What the heck is going on?

Second day with no recurrence of rattle sound. I did notice a slight crackle when I was fast forwarding iPod. Maybe this is an issue with the iPod or the Y-cable not with the HK unit itself. Any ideas?
