Aux input now missing from my head unit, HELP

I installed an iSimple iPod integration kit on my factory HK system using the CD changer wiring in the boot. It has been working fine for a couple months and now the head unit will not switch to the Aux input. I have disconnected it several times, reset the computer and it is still missing. I searched the forums for the last 2 1/2 hours and have searched Google. I can't find the cure. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a radio reset? Is there a set up menu that turns Aux on and off. I have looked in my Bentley manual and can't find anything there either.

I don't have a specific answer, but I added an aux to my (non HK) head unit on my 03 R50 and sometimes the AUX function disappears when I'm using it. I'll be listening to podcasts on my Driod phone and it will suddenly switch to CD to the radio.

I find it only happens when I have the power cable plugged into the phone. If I'm just using the phone on its battery, it does not trip the head unit.

The AUX cable/plug is sensed by its electrical resistance I believe. I assume what is happening for me is that the power in the phone is somehow affecting the ohms at the headphone out. But that may be totally coincidental.

All this to say, mine does not disappear when my phone simply running off its battery. At least this has been a reliable solution for about 6 months now.

I'm going to watch this thread an see if anyone has any actual information for us.

Problem solved and feeling stupid after a lot of searching. I checked the toggle switches and found that one of them was in the wrong position. Switched it back and the Aux input came back on line. Thanks for the help everyone! Good luck with yours Mynewt

Thanks, folks. There's got to be a way to deal with this w/o spending $15. Seems all that is needed is to ground the signal cable?

I'm going to go hunting and will report back.

The problem is the voltage between the radio GND and the accessory GND is not zero Volts. Ground your accessory at the radio or use a GND loop isolator. It's a large capacitor in a box.

Isn't a GLI a transformer in a box?

Anyway...I see I can get a GLI with 3.5mm input and output shipped from CA for around $5. That seems more reasonable.

I have some basic soldering skills and (obviously) cursory knowledge of these things, so am usually skeptical about the cost of anything involving cabling. B/C it can usually be DIYd for a fraction of the cost. But it this case. it's worth the $5 to not have to bother.

Thanks everyone.

A transformer would also work. For audio a series 1nF is usually sufficient.
