Delayed power on for 2007 r52 1st gen cabrio headunit

Anyone else have the issue where as soon as you start the MINI and then hit the power button on the headunit, that the stereo will not turn on. But give it about a minute and then it comes on by itself and works normal from then on.
P.S. with no key in the MINI the headunit turns on instant from hitting the power button.

I'd suspect the battery. MINIs do strange things when the battery starts to go. Symptoms support that hypothesis - with ignition off, nothing else is drawing power.
I know that on Nav equipped cars that the Nav unit will be slow to start just before the battery goes.
Though you say that you hit the power button after you start it. HU should be on when you start it (assuming you left it on when you turned off the car.)

Thanks, that kind of makes sense, and the battery is still the factory one, so that is 6 years old. Plus with it being a convertible it has more wear and tear on the battery as we are always putting the top down remotely. THANKS!

Just ordered a new Optima Redtop 34r, so we will see if that makes a difference.

Hopefully so. Note possible fit issues called out here.

Wouldn't be the first time I had to make something to get a part to fit a MINI. I think my wife will like this in her 1st gen Convertible S.

Note in my sig that I have a light weight Kinetik Racing battery that is much smaller than the factory unit, and I have it snug and it has never ever slips, even when at the track.
