6.5 or 8"

Everyone has different tastes when it comes to how they want their music to sound. Some people want others on the opposite side of the earth to feel what they are peddling because its all about the subs. Im not all about the subs. I'm not looking for bragging rights because the people in the neighboring country can feel my noise pollution. Nor am I all about who has the biggest wooden/fiberglass structure nestled inside a car with subs the sizes of dinner tables. Im seeking something that compliments my taste for music as well as my MINI. I still listen to a lot of old school heavy metal and acid rock. Pink Floyd is a big favorite as are Metallica, Tool, Skinny Puppy, Perfect Circle, Skortbut, Rammstein, Megaherz.

My focus is not with subsonic sound. I think subs should have their place in any system but shouldnt be the primary attention getter. In other words I am not looking for a bottom heavy system. Im seeking something balanced. Not something that we can pour sand on the roof of my MINI am watch patterns forms as the subs turn out different frequencies.

I have decent experience in car audio. I know how to properly sound deaden a vehicle using different materials and installs.

Here is what I have to work with.

Alpine iDA-X305
Two Sets of MB Quart QSD-216
Pair of MB Quart QM-200
Phoenix Gold M44
Phoenix Gold Route 66
Phoenix Gold M25

I already have one set of the QSD-216's installed in the doors and the sound quality is awesome. Now originally I was thinking about installing the second set of QSD-216's in the rear and then the QM-200's in the back . Now I am curious what it might sound like if I just use the QM-200s in place of the QSD's behind the drivers seat. It will fit with some trimming and half inch extension. Im just wondering what it would sound like after being fed through the cross overs in place of the 6.5.

the 8in speakers can handle more midbass. i would use the crossovers that came with them and drop the frequency on the amp to 95hz. (depending on how loud you listen to your system.)

Thats kinda what I was thinking because I believe the QM200 was designed more for an enhancement in place of a 6.5 then as an actual sub.

I agree, the thing with the 8" subs is you can tune them down, but with the 6.5" you won't be able to increase the bass if you decide later you would like some more. The 8" gives you more room to play with and if you have the power, room and desire you can fine tune an 8" to a 6.5" or whatever you want.

Let us know what you decide.
