R56 JCW Factory Speaker Install Questions

Hello All:

Looking for some install advice.

I just purchased a full set of Infinity Reference speakers to replace my stock HK speakers for my 2009 R56 JCW. (Got a great deal on Amazon if your looking...they were basically about half off)

This is my first time attempting to replace the speakers myself and as I got the door apart I realized I had a few questions...

1. Looking at the stock wiring, Mini used a clip to attach to the speaker, should this clip just get cut off and spliced onto some additional wire to leave enough room to connect to the new speakers? Or is there another approach?

2. Does anyone know the colors of the positive and negative lines on the stock wiring? I believe the wires have either a green or brown/orange stripe on them.

3. Is there any problem with mounting depth with the Reference speakers? In looking at the door panel it appears that the plastic ring on the inside may actually rub on the speaker face...any suggestions here?

4. Are the spacers included in the speakers necessary?

Thanks in advance for all your help, I apologize if this was addressed already in another thread...

Best,
Mike

I'm about to install speakers in my 2013 Clubman S (base radio), so I hope someone answers your Q. Especially about which wires are positive/negative.

Ok I take that back...it may not be right...I will have to double check against the other speakers once I get the panel removed. I can send pics. It is really dark in the garage so I just want to be certain the colors are correct. I will have to pull outside in the sunlight tomorrow/Sat.
