Mini oem nav system history and changes
I just ordered a 2013 Cooper hardtop. I was curious about the navigation system. My friend has a 2007 hardtop w/nav. The system seems pretty good,it works ok but does have some quirks. Does anyone know when Mini introduced the in-dash nav and how the system has evolved over the years? Is it possible for the voice to have a British accent? In her car, whenever the nav system is in use,it mutes the stereo for the entire trip. Is there a way to override that?
Thank you for helping a Newbie, I ordered my car on December 3rd,this is going to be the longest 2 months of my life!

I had an R53 with NAV and I poked around the web and found a downloadable firmware update someone hacked to make it have a British voice. Worked perfectly for me. No idea if such a thing exists for an 07 year model.

The 2007 Nav is a system with maps stored on DVD. It was completely replaced in 2011 with a system from a different manufacturer, with higher resolution screen and maps stored on flash memory.
The 2002-2006 Nav had user upgradeable firmware, but since 2007 updates must be done by the dealer.
