Navigation & Audio AUX audio hack for 2002
AUX audio hack for 2002
so im trying to figure out how to play aux audio without getting a new head unit and i am half way there lol.
i bought the aux cable and replaced the pins from where they are too where the audio comes from the nav system. and it works!
now this is where i am stuck how do i trick the radio into thinking that i want audio from the nav system all the time? becasue right now it will only play music if i hit the directions button (which makes the lady talk). but that only last for like 3 seconds same with changing nav system audio levels.
im so close its bugging me lol...... so any ideas on what to do?

Sadly he is correct, there is no way to hack it as the circuit doesn't exist. You could check EBay and the marketplace here to find a newer model. I just bought and 06 to replace my old one that failed for 50 bucks.
I think the project is a great attempt. Agreed in the end you might end up buying another one, but I like your attitude about trying to figure it out yourself. If you don't have a CD changer installed, you might be able to get away with that menu option and that set of 12 pins on the back of the unit. I'm sure you're referencing something like this: http://imageshack.us/f/168/minihupinoutzi4.jpg. The changer connects to bank CB891-B. Each speaker channel positive lead is pins 8 and 9, and both negatives feed through pin 2.
If you're using bank CB891-C, my theory is you have to provide a continuous positive signal to one of the pins, possibly 5 or 6. Positive speaker channels are 3 and 4, and both negatives are through pin 10.
If this does not work, any stereo made after January 2003 should have an AUX jack, and you should be able to find on in the FS section here or on E-Bay for $50.

Actually, I think something like this was tried and it didn't work. Let us know how you get on though...
Pretty sure that after all these years we would have figured something out if it was possible.

All 1st-gen decks accept the CD changer or the NAV unit. It's the AUX port that's an extra. All 1st-gen MINIs "should" have the wiring in place to connect the changer or NAV unit. Look behind the panel to the right in the boot.
will check for the connector, i know i dont have a changer because i looked. just didnt look for the connector.
