6.5" Subs in Rear 6x9 Location R55 Rattles

So I have installed two Kicker CompVT 2Ohm Subs in each of the 6x9 opening in the rear of my Clubman. Overall I am happy with how it sounds and performs but on some songs they tend to buzz. I am almost 100% sure it is my adapter plate and how the speakers are attached to it. I plan to rip them out and start over. I only used 1/4" finished ply because I thought doing a full 1" would stick our too far. I haven't tested for fitment though TBH.

So whats the best option for me to reduce the rattle? I have 2 layers of sound deadener on the front opening of the 6x9 and on the outer panel behind the speaker. Ensolite on top of the deadener behind the speaker. I was thinking of using a thicker wood adapter plate and using something between it and the speaker to reduce vibrations. I have heard Duct Seal

is equivalent to non-hardening modeling clay but is easier to work with and can withstand higher heat. I was planning on sandwiching that between the speaker and plate.

Any other ideas while I have the whole thing out of there?

Remove the interior panels and play the music that causes the buzz. if it is not there then the problem is with the metal grill on the interior panel.

I had this problem on mine and was able to hot glue (from behind so it did not show) the grill and stop the buzzing.

Good advice, although my interior panels aren't installed and they are rattling. I sure it is the wooden adapter plate I made, so I guess I'll start with making a new one. Any idea what the front clearance is to the panel grill? Think I have a full 1" so I can use MDF?

Even if it was the adapter plate, the thickness wouldn't cause an audible buzz. It would flex and possibly cost you some SPL, but it wouldn't be audible, especially with a 6.5" sub. The buzz is two things contacting each other. Really, instead of guessing or needlessly remaking your plates, just play some music, get back there, and listen for the buzz. Once you're in the general area start pressing on stuff until it stops. Then place foam between those things. I'm putting my money on the seat belt tensioners.

Deadener isn't designed to stop rattles. Foam, open or closed-cell, is far better for this and weighs a TON less.

I have a bunch of 1/4" Ensolite (CC Foam) that I can use. I know if I push on a corner of the speaker housing the rattles stop. So I am pretty sure it is the connection of the speaker to the plate. I just need to better dampen the plate and make sure my mounting is secure. I will know more when I get back in town and rip it apart.
