Trying to figure out if I have the H/K stereo or not. Is there an easy way to tell without tearing the car apart. I have an 02 mcs. I have checked behind the rear panels for the amp, buy disnt see anything. Was told they were there or under one of the seats. Just wondering if anyone knew before I start taking the car apart to make it easier for complete stereo overhaul. Speakers are popping and staticy. Thanks for the help in advance.

 

Press the mode? music? button repeatedly. The one that gives you BASS, TREBLE, etc.
Look to see if there's a MINI H/K setting or similar - if you see it, you have H/K.

There's also different speaker grilles labeled for H/K but that's not certain proof.

 

Ok, so i don't have h/k grills nor do i get the MINI H/K setting in the music button, only BASS, TREBLE, FADE, BALANCE. So i would assume non h/k. I also tooke a door speaker out to see if any signs of h/k, and its a 5 ohm speaker. the h/k speakers are 2 ohms, correct? that would mean just a regular stereo.

 

Yup, you don't have Harman Kardon. honestly its probably a blessing in disguise since they seem to go bad often and very expensive to fix.

 

Great. I've read some of the horroe stories from the h/k. Makes me smile. Gonna make installing new system.

 

Does anyone know if the non h/k system has a factory crossover or high pass filter? I changed head unit, put 2 way 6.5's in doors, and 3 way 6x9's in the rear, system sounds great but rears only play bass. Zero treble from the rears. Everything still sounds 1000x's better than stock, just wondering about crossover or filter. Doing sub in next week or so to finish it off.
