no frills speaker replacement
I'm not an audiophile in any way and I actually like MINI as stock as can be, but the last time I did a rattle fix, it ended up being the factory speakers driver had locked .. plus they looked aged.
I would like to replace and in a way upgrade. Is there a speaker replacement that will look factory and not require me to splice wires (plug and play)? It looked like the factory speaker was an "L" shaped connection. Are there alternatives that utilize the same plug?

Aftermarket car audio speakers use a standard spade type connector which is pictured in the top right of the image. Unfortunately I could not find a speaker harness which is what the entire picture is that fits the mini cooper.
For future reference, please post year, model, trim, audio system installed before asking questions about parts for your car. This will help who ever tries to answer your question and give you specific part numbers and not guess that you possibly have a 2006 mini cooper non Harmon-kardon equipped hatchback.
You can also do the search, crutchfield.com is a great source for "speaker harness" to see if you net any results.

sorry about that. the car in question is a '02 MCS w/ a regular Boost radio and factory speakers.
I tried the search, unfortunately all relate to upgrading to much more advanced components and systems - neither of which I am inclined to do.
I actually tried to shop at Crutchfield when I first got the car, but none of the speakers that were offered (after consulting with them) offered a fit that would be a simple, direct fit.
Thanks for the pic though. I may have to look for a harness to convert the new speaker to accept the factory plug.

It is really easy to cut the wires, install spade connectors attach to new speakers and move on. If you go to any stereo shop that is what they do. Or if you want to get fancy, break the connector off the old speakers and attach wires with spade connectors to go between the cars proprietary clip and aftermarket speaker standard spade clip like a homemade speaker harness for the Mini.
