Factory Navigation diagnostic help needed

Short story, I retrofitted this into my car. It works *sometimes*. meaning, it's fully locked onto my position twice in the past week. Initially, I had it wired so that it rebooted every time I switched the key off. I've since fixed that issue.

Now, I'm getting "visibility" of 8-15 units. The higher the number, the better lock I have. I believe I have some programming/coding issues to sort out. But I may also have a defective antenna or cable. Cable is *new* antenna is the original, which is Nav compatible.

My DCAN cable is still in the mail as I ordered the incorrect one (anyone need a KCAN?.

Here are the diagnostics screens:

Thanks for any help/guidance anyone can provide. I've not been able to find the diagnostic/shop workbook on this system.

Did you got to that menu with WDS instructions?

The think about the position system, is that it needs about 15min the first time it goes into a new location to download all the information necessary. Until that procedure is over, it is not possible to get positioning info. Responsible for the positioning info, is the HIP module, which is part of the radio unit assembly but can be exchanged separately.
You may ultimately have a faulty HIP module or you need to check the connection to the HIP.

Ah yeah... The unit downloads this info when the car is switched off, so the CCC needs constant power. If you change the maps-disc for example, it asks to you to switch off the car for some time and then switch back on, otherwise navigation is not available.

One final think, when you do get your D-CAN cable and check for errors (it will help you a lot with troubleshooting this one, as the errors always point to the problematic part), I advise you to generate a new "FBI" or Fast Boot Image for the CCC. It makes the CCC boot match faster, but should be done after you finish all coding work etc.

Thanks for hte reply!

Correct, the menu is from the WDS.

To get into it, go to the start menu, highlight 'setup'

Hold the joystick down for 15 seconds
turn 3 clicks right
turn 3 clicks left
turn 1 click right
turn 1 click left
turn 1 click right
Press joystick down and you'll see an "OSD" menu, click the display again.

Once there, navigate up and down with twisting the controller and pressing it. *some* menus have multiple screens, you access them by moving the joystick right and highlighting 'next'.

I may have a bad HIP, however electronics generally fail. They either work or don't. Mine usually works when I pull the radio out and mess with the antenna wire. I did pull the HIP out to verify all connections were good and there were no broken solder joints. I'm ordering another new antenna wire. If the HIP module proves bad, I'll pick up another Nav CCC from the wrecking yard. I might even pick up a newer system, but I think it's best to lick this system first and then attempt an upgrade.

Good to know on downloading the data. I'll reboot the CCC and leave the disk in there with the car off and parked where it can see the sky. However, it's never told me to leave the car off.

I assume I can google search a FBI process?

WDS does refer to some other diagnostics that I've not found. Hopefully someone here knows how to make sense of the data once I figure out how to perform them.

Just updating this. Antenna was incorrect. Seems we need an antenna with a blue connector to get GPS working.
