AUX and 6 Disc Changer in R53 - At the Same time?

Hey guys,

The car in question is an '02 MCS with build date of 5/2002.

I've been sorting through all the info on here and at MINI2 abouthaving an AUX input for my iPhone4 so I can run Pandora through the speakers.

So far I understand that there are adapters that take the place of the 6 Disc changer plug, but I would love to keep the 6 Disc. I still listen to CDs so losing would be a bummer.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

A 2003 or newer MINI can use Aux and CD changer at the same time. However, a 2002 headunit does not have Aux capability at all. You have two choices:
  1. Replace your 2002 headunit with a newer one (2003+) that does have Aux capability. MINI OEM headunits come up regularly on eBay, often at very reasonable prices. Then you can add the Aux cable, and you'll be able to use it and the CD changer at the same time.
  2. Use this adapter from newministuff: http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop...ductshow&id=50

Thanks rkw!

I think the newer headunit would be the way to go as rewiring the aux input from the CD changer in the boot would be too much work to hide.

Now for my last questions ..

Do all of the 2003 headunits have the ports for the 6 disc AND aux???? Is this a purely a plug and play deal or am I looking out for specific radio versions?

All OEM headunits (all years) have a port for a CD changer. In the first year production of the MINI (2002) the headunit did not have an aux input port, but every year afterwards all headunits have aux input (in addition to the CD changer port). If you get a headunit that is 4/2005 or newer, the CD player can also play mp3 discs. Headunits from any year are all plug and play interchangeable.
