Sudden change in AM reception
Hey folks,
Before you say it, yes I know that "AM radio is for old men", but we have a great sports radio show on AM850 that is worth listening to.
Anyway, yesterday I had my windshield replaced at lunch, and on my way home later in the day, I immediately noted an increase in noise on all AM stations, even WBZ 1030 which is a clear channel station and one of the most powerful in the country. I have never had any noise on WBZ, but yesterday there was a constant whine (no, not the broadcaster
) and notiecably higher background noise. On every station I normally listen to, I noted increased noise, increased sensitivity to overhead high tension lines and bridges, and generally decreased station sensitivity as I drove from MA to RI.
It may be a coincidence (probably is), but maybe not, so that's why I figured I post here to see if anyone else has experienced a sudden change on their AM reception. I should also note that my FM reception is for the most part unchanged, but I didn't listen as much to FM yesterday, so I can't say with 100% certainty.
So, is there connection between the AM reception and the windshield? Is it possible that an antenna amplifier has failed for AM only?
For completenes sake, I have a 2004 S.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Blue

It is possible that the aerial amplifier isn't working but that the FM signal strength is already high so it still sounds good. Aerial amplifiers are usually pretty reliable so check the wiring first. The amp is located inside and to the right of the rear hatch, you'll need to remove the trim to see it.
