I was wondering if anyone out their had any experience running Iphone video or apps on their factory nav. Ive cought a few brief posts on other BMW sites about this, so im pretty sure its possible. Any help would be appreciated

 

There are several aftermarket kits available to play a composite video signal on the factory Nav screen. Here's one: http://www.navtv.com/product/12/bmwv-.html. Apple (and others) sell cables to get composite video from an iPhone.

 

I appreciate the reference...does anyone have experience with any of these?

 

I'm not really the type who likes Ipod movies, but the apps from my Iphone could be useful. Also I wouldn't mind seeing the artwork from the album I'm listening too. Plus the factory Nav is pretty much useless, so if i could run a app for directions i would be in much better shape...

 

I think composite video output on the iPhone is only available if the app supports it, and most apps don't. If you have the iPhone composite AV cable, hook it up to a TV and see what you get. You can see iPod movies and photo album, I don't think there's much else.

There's no magic to it. The aftermarket adapters make the Nav screen work exactly like a TV monitor (note that it's the low def composite video). Actually I have the OEM video adapter (MINI does sell one) with a rear view camera. Others have connected it to DVD players and game consoles. The limitation is what output you can get from an iPhone, and you can check that using a TV monitor.

 

Again great information...I believe that somewhere i read that jail broken phones support composite output...This will have to be further investigated. Im also stumbling over this problem. As of right now i have the factory ipod hook up. This allows me to switch songs with my steering wheel controls. I dont want to loose this ability with a video hookup...
