upgrade ?

I have a 2008 mini r56 s with the hifi system. Awhile back I did the boss sub install, and have been very disappointed in it. I've recently noticed the speakers breaking up if played at a hi volume. I've decided I want to try to build a custom sub box, and replace the front speakers. I'd like to keep all the speakers in the locations they are at now including the tweeters etc. My question Is I was hoping to use one amp, say a jl audio 300/4. Could I bridge two of the channels to the sub, then use the other two for the front speakers? Then could I take the wires that are run to the front speakers, and re route them to 6x9's in the rear (in order to get by the 100mhz cutoff)?

On a different note, I was also wondering how much room is behind the rear 6x9 speakers. I was thinking it could be cool to get two 6 inch subs maybe the kicker 10cvt654, and replace the rear speakers with the 6 inch subs. In my old car I ran two kicker free air subs mounted on the rear deck, and was very pleased. I wouldnt mind trying to run free air subs back there, or if there is enough room, make a small box. I'd also love to put 8 inches if there is room, but I doubt there is, any one try this yet?

First off there is NO 100hz cutoff on the HiFi system, it only exits on the Base system.

As for running the front and rear off of a single channel for each side - NOT a good idea as that will be overloading the amp

Depth wise the Kicker 10cvt654 is only 2-7/8" deep so it should fit just fine. I have Alpine 6x9's in the rear of my car that are 3-3/8" deep and they fit with about a 1/4 inch behind them.

if you are going to replace the 6x9's with woofers then a 4 channel amp is really all you need but if you are going to be running both the fronts and rears and a sub then you would be better off with a 5 channel amp.

I wish i knew there wasn't a cut off for the hifi, instead of tapping into the front x991 connector I would of just tapped it off the rear speakers. But Every sound system that just sounds really good to be has only had front speakers, and then a sub. So I dont mind just getting rid of the rear 6x9's, and replacing them with a 6 or 8 inch free air sub mounted in their location. If I was to keep them, I would just keep the hifi amp running them, and use a 4 channel amp for the fronts/sub. The rears would just be for "fill". I really like the idea of putting shallow mount 8 inch subs in place of the 6x9's and keeping a trunk.

Try the JL 900/5. Costs a bit more than Alpines PDX 5 but I heard them side by side and preferred the JL for its additional power and tweak ability. Super strong amp, more than you need in the Mini......

I am using JL XD amps in my cooper, and have them hidden away from view as they are stored in the secret compartment in the boot area. They are really SMALL!!!
