USB Extensions to Secret Compartment, Panel Mount questions

I'm planning on soon extending my dash usb connection to the compartment.

Rather than a hole with a cable, I am hoping to panel mount a usb socket.

I'll use one of either of these:

How much clearance is there around the secret compartment for mounting one of these? Is there ample clearance on the sides or back?

Any suggestion for where to mount it? Seems like the back is nice, but difficult to reach.

How long of an extension should I order? Is 3ft/1m long enough? Is it too long?

I'll get a pair of these to turn the usb socket 180degrees in the cubby hole.

Is it simple to route the cable out the back of the cubby hole? I'd like to be as non-destructive as possible.

Thanks, Pete

There is no room on the sides, top or bottom of the Secret Compartment to put a USB socket and yes putting it in the back left corner as you are facing there is room but as you stated it is rather difficult to get to.

I would look at the direction on how to remove the dash before attempting anything. In the Mods section there is a How To section where there is a thread with a video.

If you are daring you can get the sleeve out of the secret compartment with out taking the dash apart but it requires a bunch of screw drivers and prying. A few have been successful and others have broken it and had to buy a replacement. If you are successful it is still hard to get cables down to where you need them to go.
