Need Audio Help - Front components with amp

My speakers have blown yet again and I'm looking for an inexpensive upgrade. I've read several threads that say the Polk DB6501s are good for the front and the DB651s are good for the rear. I have a Rockford Fosgate 600w 2-ch amp that I was using to power a sub that I no longer have installed so I'm looking to use that to power either the front or rear speakers. The amp puts out 125w RMS at 4ohms.

I don't care for over the top bass anymore (hence removing the sub) but do want some bass. Should I power the front speakers with the amp and run the rears off the h/u or vice versa? Would I be better off just leaving the factory rears?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Looking to spend as little money as possible.

Thanks.

inexpensive ugrade?? thats not the case if you have the HK system. Are you planning on keeping the factory headunit? I'm in the same boat as you right now, I have a 800w 4 channel pioneer amp that is 75x4, or I can bridge it and run the front components @ 200x2. But with yours only being a 2 channel I would definitly run the fronts with your amp and run the rears off the HU.

Good point, I should've mentioned that I have the non-H/K system. So, when running the rears off the HU it's better to just leave the factory speakers since the HU only puts out like 5w RMS. Right?

I have to figure out the wiring and where I want to put the amp. Have people been putting the crossovers in the door panels or mounting them elsewhere? Any problems/heat issues having the amp under the passenger seat?

if you are adding an amp I would insist on upgrading to a aftermarket HU too. It just makes an amp install much easier. No messing around with rca line adaptors.

Most crossovers will fit inside the doors. depending on their size, but most fit.

A number of people have mounted their amps under their seats...again, depending on the size. Personally, I would put it under the driver seat. I never have more then 3 passengers so I make the 3rd person sit on the passenger side, so I dont have to move my seat.

The amp was wired previously for a sub, not sure how it's plugged into the HU so I'll have to check. I'm against upgrading the HU just because I love an OEM+ look and don't care for the look of aftermarket HUs.

Do you have any recommendations for speakers or are the Polk DB6501 a solid choice?

How about the JL Audio VR650-CSi? They're discontinued but can be had for about $150 shipped which is only slightly more than the Polks...

I hear you on aftermarket HU's.
polk and JL are both make good speakers. As long as they have enough power pushing them.

Are there any issues with putting some Second Skin Damplifier and/or Luxury Liner Pro on the walls of the battery box? (For those unfamiliar with the product, it's equivalent to Dynamat)

*Edit: Nevermind, I found my answer after searching. (It's ok to do the battery box)
