R56 budget speaker upgrade (pics)
As we all know the stock speakers in the R56 are horrible at best. One of the stockers was starting to bite the dust in the doors in our Cooper so it was time for an upgrade. I have some pretty high end setups in my other cars but was just looking to do an upgrade as I am not the one who drives this. A good buddy of mine recently picked up the FLI/VIBE audio line and passed on a rediculous deal to me to try out the FLI Audio COMP6 component speakers. This is there entry level set, and I couldnt buy a 4" coaxial alone for the price I paid for this component set.
Install was very straightforward, the cutout diameter on the woofer is a hair bigger then what everyone states on the forum will fit yet it fit with zero issues.
Woofer installed in the door
Shot of the woofer through the door panel
It comes with a small crossover so I wrapped it in bubble wrap and put it in the back of the upper speaker mount cavity.
Tweeter mounted
Tweeter through grill, you cant really see the strap or tweeter at all unless a flash is present.
All and all it sounds great. While these arent top of the line speakers off of the oem headunits power these sound great, easily 100x better then stock. Was well worth the money. Had the whole deal done in about 1.5 hours. Maybe the rears next and or a small powered sub in the trunk. I also just recently did the same set of components and the matching coaxial in a buddys car off of a 4 channel pushing them about 80watts rms a piece and they are doin a great job.
Enjoy
