Touchscreen Install

So far the touchscreen navigations systems that I have seen installed get in the way of the speedo. I was wondering if anyone has installed an Alpine TME-S370, touchscreen monitor.

I would like to have it so the monitor doesn't block the speedo and still looks as stock as possible. Would using the cravenspeed bracket be an idea so the screen is visible and any information that is needed can be adjusted easy. Also, does anyone know if there are any gauges that can be displayed by the monitor, like Speed, Boost... etc.

You are correct that you get some blockage from the flip out screen. I have a Kenwood in my MINI and when it is open it will block the fuel gage and temp. This is something that I do not have open all the time and usually only do when I am using the Nav. I must say thou that the Kenwood has an excellent adjustment feature for the screen and it is very solid. Some of the other brands I looked at were pretty flimsey. My installer also said that he could do a double din unit on the MINI's. They move the heating controll's and switch's down to make room for the unit. You may want to consider that and would open up a lot of new choices.

I was thinking about that as option as well. Has anyone even done that though?

It looks like it is possible. According to this thread he was able to simply move the ac unit down 3-4" with no problems. That is kinda interesting... Wonder why no one else has tried it. The double din looks much nicer!

Well now that I see it's possible... How hard is it to install the new head unit and connect it to the hk system?

Hey guys, I recently went to an audio installer and he integrated an Alpine Digital Media Station in my R50. Was amazed on how he was able to shift my air conditioning controls down below the toggles.
Maybe it's nothing special to you but I think he have done something which I have been longing for so long and no one in my country actually has done it.

This is the exact head unit I want to do. Remember any tips, problems, advice so I could do it myself? Did he use a double din install kit or is it a custom bracket? Assuming all the speakers were replaced and the HK amp was bypassed?

There isn't any special things that require attention. We just measured the depth to make sure the whole head unit can fit nicely. The cables for the climate control is long enough for the unit to be shifted down. But a wooden frame was customed to cover the exposed portion around the head unit.
My MINI is a late 2005 R50 and I suppose I do not have the HK as factory fitted audio.I changed to a pair of DLS components and used a 4 channel amp to drive it.I also used a monoblock for my 10" woofer, plus a capacitor and some other necessities to enhance the sound.
I hope you'll be successful in your upcoming project!
