Sat Nav Issues, Where Am I?

Hi there!

I recently ( Yesterday) collected my 2007 Mini Cooper S which I must say is the most fantastic car ever!

However, My Sat Nav isn't working as its supposed to.

The Sat Nav thinks my location is the best part of 100 miles away and as the car moves it moves the car on the map. However it doesnt show my location but the location 100miles away.

This is becoming rather frustrating and wondered if anyone has a fix?

Ive tried the following to reset it but not luck:

Remove Cd
Turn car off and on
and remove battery for 60 seconds.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

If the manuals are with the car I would look for some sort of GPS reset or calbration.

If its still under warranty take the sucker to the dealer and have them look at it or at least talk to a Service Rep and see if they have heard of this issue.

Unfortunately its out of warranty however its booked in for a service next Wednesday and they've said they'll look into it. Thanks for the speedy response though!

Might leave the battery off for longer and see what happens.

Are you sure you are where you think you are? If the Nav is showing you being somewhere better, I would go with that

I wish I had some real help, but my current Nav system is my four year old kicking the seat and yelling "Daddy, you missed it!" lol

The only info I was able to find close to a problem similar to yours was someone whose GPS thought they were in London when they've never even been to England. The advice given there was to check that the default location was set on the proper continent. Unfortunately, my GPS is not the built in sat/nav, so can't help with how to do that (if it can even be done).

Thanks ever so much for the replies!

Fortunately for me I'm actually in the UK, However I might play around with the settings and set it to US is possible then back to UK.

The battery was disconnected for 60 seconds yesterday and that seems to make no significance what so ever.

Maybe mini are going to have to look into this one.

If anyone else has any ideas I'd be very grateful.

Right, My weekend consisted of:

Disconnecting battery for 60 seconds.
Removing all fuses for sat nav for 60 seconds.

finally I managed to find how to put it in diagnostic mode and found some interesting info.

Under GPS location it says "ungueltig" according to a google seach it reaveals this means "Invalid".

So atleast I know the satnav knows sometings going wrong!

Booked in at mini on wednesday!

Worth diconnecting battery for longer?

I'd say probably not. I'm thinking MINI needs to reload all of the software.

Based on that screenshot, My bet is your GPS antenna in the stack on your roof has gone bad, either corroded by water damage or has become disconnected. I think the movement you are seeing on the map is estimated movement based on the vehicle speed/steering wheel angle and not the GPS signal.

You might just be right there!

Mini said that they have connected it up to the computer and it seems that there is a loose connection or something has corroded etc. Therefore they have suggested to remove the headliner and see if they can see the fault. Only thing is that they want £130 or $208. Which i think seems a bit excessive. Therefore think im going to have a look myself before they charge that much. Problem being is that mini are the ones who really need to look at it.

Gotta find how to remove the headliner myself now

Before attempting the difficult headliner removal (I think there are instructions in these forums somewhere). I am not sure if the headliner removal will help. Look for how to remove the antenna first, I know lots of people replace their antennas. Maybe that involves removing the headline. So open that up and inspect for corrosion.

Oh I just looked...Looks like the regular whip antenna screws in...so no removal of the base...So you would probably have to remove the headliner.

Had a quick try and you can pull the headliner away by the boot which is fairly simple and can get my hands to the antenna. had a fiddle with it but didn't seem to do anything.

Can't see by replacing the antenna what it will achieve? how does an antenna go wrong lol?

Many thanks,

There are a bunch of antennas in the base of the antenna on the roof, the sat radio, cellular, and GPS. The whip is for AM & FM I believe. And for fun trivia there are other FM antennas in the glass rear glass! It may need to be replaced. A few people have had their satellite radio antennas go bad, so they replace that unit. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...78&hg=65&fg=30 I am pretty sure it is number 65203442105 but when I pull it up in Parts.com it shows it is for without navigation. It is $28.

Thanks for the response!!!

I took a quick video with the iPhone to see what you make of the underneath.

Tomorrow i'm going to order a new antenna from Mini and then replace it and see what happens.

Unplug the orange and pink connectors and check them for corrosion or rust inside.

The narrow cropping of the video is extreme! The yellow one I believe is the GPS and the pink one is the Sat radio.

Ordered a new antenna base. £120.00 / $200.00 from BMW

Cheaper than I can get from the like of the following:

http://new.minimania.com/web/item/G2.../InvDetail.cfm

Hopefully will fit it tonight!

Removing fuses or disconnecting the battery in these cars for "only" 60 seconds (1 minute) does not do anything.

To reset the computers and electronics, if they need it, will take a battery disconnect for a minimum of 15 minutes preferably 30 minutes.

Not that I have OEM NAV, but I have had some radio problems in the past and a short (5 minute) battery disconnect did not fix it, but after checking with the dealer and them telling me a minimum of 15 minutes and preferably 30 minutes. All the problems were solved.

Found this reset procedure the WDS for the CCC:

When the rotary pushbutton as well as the buttons CD/MD eject and DVD eject on the front panel are pressed simultaneously, the CCC runs a reset.

Gents,

Would like to say thank you ever so much for your help!

Last night I dsconnected the battery and had no luck. Therefore I Gambled it.

Took the old aerial out from in the boot headliner. Replaced it and plugged in the new one. Still showed up in Dartford. Just as I was about to launch into a "wobbly" Walah! It picked up the location!

Chuffed and now all fixed!

Saved me the best part of £200 by doing it myself!

Thanks alot,

Regards,
