The Mini Gets SIRIUS...

I installed my OEM Sirius unit in my Mini this afternoon. When I got a Kenwood H2A unit recently I discovered the satellite radio was definitely for me. I got tired of taking the portable unit in and out of the Mini, so decided to shell out the bucks for the OEM unit.

I'm very pleased.

Now they'll have to steal the car to get my satrad.

Did you use the OEM combination sat/fm antenna? I should be getting in my final part this week for an aftermarket Sirius install and am still deciding on where to place the antenna.

Yes.

I decided to go with the entire OEM setup. The antenna is a combo unit that runs the AM/FM and satellite both. You end up with only 1 antenna on your roof.

Debated on the installation kit but it did come in useful. I used it to mount the tuner to the recommended moorings and the install kit included the installation instructions and owners manual.

How much did that set you back?? $$$$

I've considered satellite, but want to stay OEM.

From my "Has anyone installed a Sirius tuner in their MINI?" thread:

Get the tuner from Classic ($239). Get the install kit from Classic ($75). Get the HK extension and the CD Extension if you need it from Classic ($10 ea.). Get either the dual antenna from Classic ($100) or an aftermarket antenna ($50 and absolutely necessary if you have the NAV system, since there is no OEM option for a NAV&Sirius combo antenna). You'll still have to sign up for Sirius service, so that's not included in either one of these bottom-line prices. All total for OEM, it would be $364-$434, again depending on exactly what your existing setup is.

Yes.

Get it from Classic. It's still pricey, but they will save you some good bucks.

I really liked the Kenwood H2A system. If I hadn't I wouldn't have spent the extra money to get the OEM one for the Coop.

$100 for the OEM antenna, that's not a bad price. I'll keep that in mind if I don't have any luck with the aftermarket antenna. I'm totally against putting a magnetic antenna on my paint and at first will temporarily place the antenna for testing.

Does the head unit display artist and title good? I was in Nashville getting some service done and noticed a FM station up there had it so the artist and title would scroll across the display. I believe it was The Beat or something like that. It was a rap type of station. Does Sirius work that way?

You can adjust your HU to display the parity (?) of the station, ie, 106.3 FM The Kix, Oldies, etc.

The HU for the Sirius function defaults to station number then it stays on the "name" of the station. You can press the "INF" button and it will give you the artist, press again and it will give you the title of song. I wish you could set the unit to do this automatically if you desired, but you can't. Everytime you want to see the artist and title, you have to press the INF button. But at least you can get the info.
