Front speaker spacers?

I'm about to purchase replacements for the stock 5.25" front speakers on my 2005 Conv (non H/K HU and speakers). I'm trying to decide between 5.25 and 6.5, but the dilemma I'm having now is the spacers. I'd rather just buy a pair than fabricate my own. Any recommendations for aftermarket spacers for either speaker size? Are Scosche any good?

One of our R&D vehicles had the Scosche adapters installed. The screw holes don't all align, so to mount them properly you'll need to drill one hole in the door.

Also keep in mind that you've only got ~2.75" max mounting depth, and that's including the ~1" thickness of the adapter. You are also somewhat limited in top mount clearance as well and not all 6.5" speakers will fit.

We're working on our plug-n-play SoundStage upgrades for the MINI which will include precise adapter plates for both woofer and tweeter in addition to the factory wiring harness plugs. It looks like the R50/2/3 version will be the first one available, though it will still likely be 6-8 weeks before they are ready.

Not to pull away from kevin. But for a DIY option I used the original speaker spacers. Yes, I cut the speaker out and used a dremel to smooth out the ring. the screw holes wont line up with the speaker. But the spacer fits perfectly since its OEM. Then from there I screwed the speaker into through the spacer (Itll make more sense if you look at the spacer) into the door. Takes time but its free. So now you have two options, enjoy your new system.

I used Polk db 6501 components in my doors. I used the spacers that Polk included in the box (instead of the spacers that Crutchfield gave me). The result was perfect fitment, with no drilling and no clearance issues.

I also just installed 6.5" Polk db 6501's

Just as Ellcapitan, last week I installed Polk db 6501's in my '02 MCS using the Polk spacers (not the Crutchfield), they clear the windows and fit great. I even fit the crossover on the inside of the door panel next to the speaker instead of inside the door where it can get wet. The Polks come with 2 tweeter mounts and the smaller one will mount in the original tweeter space with only minor modifications so you don't have to use double side tape to hold it in place like some people have done. Using the mount also allows you to adjust the direction the tweeter points. Overall the the Polks make for a very clean install using the stock speaker grills for both the tweeter and woofer.

I did Pioneers.

I installed Pioneer A 1702C 6.75" speakers in the doors of my 06 S. Like Myminigidget I used the old speakers as adapters by cutting out all the guts. The pioneers came with mounting rings that fit almost perfectly around the modified adapters. A bit of glue and you have a factory fit to the door and a different factory fit to the speaker. The crossover fits on the dry side of the door panel.

I also put 6x9 pioneers in the back. The total cone area is greater than a 12" SW and all four speakers go down to 30hz. Very nice. Next thing is a new amp.

I opted on removing the grilles and mounting my speakers on the panels.

I was thinking of doing that, because I saw where someone on here had mounted theirs that way. I think they were the Polk speakers, and the cover matched the interior and looked really nice. Did you just drill out the four holes in the factory cover and use those holes to mount through?

I just broke off the rivets, then made new holes. You have to cut the 4 nubs off...you'll see what I mean...

Mounting behind the panel the surround hit the tabs and damaged my speakers before - hence why I mounted like this.
