Help with Ipod adapter

I bought a isimple ipod adapter that plugs into the cd changer plug, but when i went to locate that plug. I couldnt find it. So i pulled out the head unit and tried to plug it into the back of the head unit. It wouldnt plug in anywhere. I have a 2006 cooper s with the harman kardon system. Any ideas about where else to look for the plug. Any ideas would be great.

Hi robg9178,

I hope i can help. The cd changer wiring is located on the passenger side of your car. open the access door and the wiring should be wrapped in black fabric tape, capped off for protection. at least mine was. Not a lot of room back there but you should be able to locate it. The connector will not plug in the back of the head unit, as the isimple you ordered or bought was made to connect in the cd changer wiring.

Let me know if you have more troubles, and i can look at mine in day light and help you. PM me.

Tommy

Sorry to hijack, but I have a question about the iPod hook up. Is there something I'm doing wrong with the plugging in of the iPod? It will only start on the first song of the first album, or I can get it to shuffle. I can't pick an album?? It's useless to me with 80 gig of music, some of which I may not want to hear at any given time. Seems like it's more distracting/frustrating seeking through unwanted songs than they want it to actually be. It's only good with an iPod shuffle or something small.

I'm not sure, it was in the car when I bought it used. It's in the glove box. When I plug in my iPod, it basically takes control of the iPod and won't let me do anything with it.

It is supposed to do that...

That being said, we don't know what type it is and can't tell you how to work it. If it was an Dension, you can create five playlists and then use the number buttons on your radio to switch between them. If it is the MINI version you will have to create playlists called MINI1, MINI2 etc... and then you can switch between the playlists. Best bet would be to pull the radio and find out who made the module.

Thanks for the heads-up on that. I'll try creating a play list and see what's up. In my other car, I just have an aux plug and I much prefer that. So annoying having the car take over the iPod, and I understand why they do that, but now I just have to use CD's all the time and that's much more distracting than normal iPod use.

What does your iPod display when it is connected? If it is a MINI logo then it is MINI and you will need the "special" playlists.

Hi muzuk,

Here is a write up if the ipod adaptor you have is the Gen 1 adaptor.

This is the Ipod interface that MINI offers and connects directly the stock radio and allows Apple Ipods (except Shuffle) to be controlled through the factory radio and steering wheel mounted controls. Basically the stock radio treats the IPOD as an external CD changer and sees playlists as CD's do you can navigate up to 6 play lists and move through the tracks as normal. Does not work if factory CD changer, navigation or satellite radio is installed as it connects through that port on the back of the radio. This is the official MINI version that is sold as an option by the factory and is a perfect fit.

Hope this helps!

This sounds like what I have. I do get a MINI logo on my iPod after plugging it in. I'll try creating some playlists and see what happens. Thanks again!
