Navigation & Audio blown speaker
Nowhere in your longwinded signature did I see any mention of which factory audio system you have. If it's the HK, and assuming you're not into replacing the whole system, I'd definitely go with a stock replacement speaker, due to the oddball impedance requirements. If it's the base-version non-HK, you do have aftermarket replacement speaker options, but none of them will yield much, if any, improvement unless you, once again--you guessed it--replaced the whole system.
To sum it up, if it were me...and I'm still running with the assumption that you're not interested and/or prepared to do a major sound system overhaul...either way, I'd simply replace the bad speaker with a used stock replacement, off fleaBay and be done with it.

I'm dealing with the same issue but mine is an HK system. My right door speaker only distorts after it's been playing a while. I'm thinking my problem may be related to the amplifier.
I'm not trying to hijack your thread. I just had to hop on here due to the similarities.

more than welcome. mine crackles and fuzzes unless the volume is switched tword the drivers side and quiet. also, i have to remove the driver side door panel to fix the handle anyways, should i replace that speaker also because it has had to pick up the slack from the passenger side unit?

I like to do everything myself but when it comes to wiring I'm not that great. I'm also color blind, lol. I'm going to a local car audio place today to see what they think. I'll post my findings later tonight.
You still should replace the bad speaker with a stock one...whether it be new ($$) or used, because any aftermarket one you get will not have the same specs, as far as sensitivity rating, minimum power rating (yes that's right, MINIMUM power rating would actually be a replacement speaker consideration in the MINI's dreadfully underpowered standard audio system), not to mention actual sound properties...as the stock speakers.
If you don't want to hunt down a used stock speaker (or pony up for a new one), at very least you should replace both front speakers as a pair with aftermarket units made for low power applications (the good news is that these are also usually the cheapest, and most likely to actually fit, depth-wise).
