Well, first...I've never owned an IPOD, but I'm about to. My '09 MC base has the adapter, and I just purchased the "cords" from Aaron at Outmotoring. (previous owner included eveything but these cables!)

Bigger, better?

It really depends on how much music you are going to want to load into it and if you want to view Movies/Videos. I've got an older IPOD Classic that I've had for 4 years. There are roughly 3700+ songs on it and I've used about 17 Gigabytes of the 30 Gig I have available. I think that for most people, the 16 Gigabyte IPOD Nano is a real good option. If you want another brand name, I'm not the one to comment as I have no experience with them.
If you want to be able to control the IPod, as well has have the audio feed through the car, the cable will work with any of the current generation and recent Ipods except for the Ipod shuffle.
Nano is a good choice, unless you need an huge amount of space, or want some of the extra features of the Touch (things like Wifi browsing, applications, etc.) Also, the nano has some quirks if you use podcasts or audio books, but for strictly music its great.

My 16GB nano is great - it's a perfect size and easy to carry, but I really need 40GB for all my music. Also I find it difficult to read the artist and album from 2 ft away where it's mounted on the dash - the font is really small. Song titles I can read with no problem.
also, have you already input all your music to iTunes? It takes a while if it's all on CD so you should get started with that right away while you're deciding on a model.

I agree with everyone else. It really depends on how much music you currently have. For instance, I currently have 13 Gb of music in my iTunes library, 4 Gb of which is Christmas music. My 4 Gb iPod Mini, which is 5 years old, is perfect for my Christmas music which I do not need to play year round, so when I got my new iPod a few months ago, I chose a 16 Gb iPod Nano. I chose the Nano because a)I could get it for free(Back to School Promotion), and b) it had a large enough capacity that I could still add music 5 years from now with ease. The Classic was my number 2. I honestly would not go with anything smaller than 16 Gb, because you never know how much space you'll need until a few years down the road. Also, I would avoid getting an iPod touch because you'll end up spending tons of money on apps. For what it's worth, that's my 2 cents.
Thanks folks, for all of your help and advice! I actually was "gifted" a new IPod Nano today, 8GB. Having never owned one before, I'm excited; and, it will make the dead radio zones in NM not so bad on our upcoming trip!
Thank you all again!
