iPhone 4 with Bluetoooth...or not so much

Is anyone else having issues with their iPhone connecting? It could be...is likely the phone but didn't know if anyone else is having the issue?

Mine is hit or miss. Worked this morning. the car "knows" my phone and my phone "sees" the car but connecting the two is about 50/50.

also this morning, thought the bluetooth is working the ipod adapter wouldn't play the music. it could look through but wouldn't play. again, like the phone, it's part of the time as the other day it was alright. for that matter it was quicker than previous iphones in response. so i used the aux line and there was a LOT of chatter on that.

all kinda odd. after time i'll figure out the triggers. like every iphone launch thus far there are bugs that hopefully get a serious firmware update from apple

I just set mine up this morning and took forever for the phone and the MINI to 'talk' to each other but after that I have made a few calls with no problems...

Not to derail this....but I updated my iPhone 3G to the 4.0 software update, and the phone is now a little flakey trying to navigate and control the music and phone features.

I did a little trial of this last night with my iPhone4...

Ipod works like normal and does charge the phone...

Pandora still doesn't work unless you unplug the USB and therefore loses your ability to charge the phone...

so here are my findings upon some messing around with it.
all is good but sometimes i can't access the ipod "app" of the phone. then i opened up the "multi tasking" and closed the existing open, ipod. upon closing the ipod, all is good. so if you plug your phone in and nothing, open up the multi tasking and close the ipod app that is already open.

I cannot get my iPhone 4 and my MINI (2009) to pair through bluetooth. Nope, not at all. My phone has seen it on the network but it will not pair. So flipping annoying.

Must be a situation with the non-Nav system, as I have an '09 MCS with Nav and the iPhone 4 BT connects without issue. In fact, it seems more robust and stable than iPhone 3x.

The 3GS snap-in took about six months, and that was quick compared to others...

Someone on MotoringFile says they modified their 3G version to work with the 4 though:

Bluetooth Audio?

I have a 2011 MCS w/Nav and pretty much everything else, the only think I can't seem to get to work is getting my iPhone 4 to bluetooth my music. On the wireless4mini page it says that it should do it, and I know the phone doesn't it because my roommate does it with his in his car, does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

About the iPhone 4 Cradle (snap-in adapter), I talked to a couple dealers the other day because I saw that BMW had just released theirs and I know Mini is not usually far behind with theirs, they couldn't give me a confirmed date yet, but they did say exactly that, that it shouldn't be far behind the BMW one, so keep an eye out....I'll be checking, I'll write back here if I hear anything

Not sure why it is not working but some people get it to work and others do not. Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a 2011 and an iPhone so I have no way of doing any testing. But yes it does seem random on who gets it to work. Maybe someone else here that has gotten it tow work can give you some hints.

The cradle is available in Europe already and the correct part number is 84-21-2-186-288

The two part numbers below WILL NOT work in the 2011 with MINI Connected so don't let them try to tell you they will

1. 84-10-9-182-792 - Only for charging no smart phone integration

2. 84-21-9-164-213 - For Smartphone Integration 2009 and 2010 models only.

I was just told by a parts guy at the local bmw dealership that they had they released a cradle but it didnt work so they recalled it and went back to the drawing board.

Also, for anyone who had a cradle for the 3g(s) and upgraded their phone to the iphone4, I dremelled out the edges of the cradle and got the iphone4 to fit in it. It works just fine, no connection issues or anything. If anyone is interested I can put up pictures.

The bluetooth module (ULF) is the same for both Nav and non-nav vehicles (not sure about the Connected vehicles however). If you have trouble with the bluetooth connecting, you may want to see if your dealer will update the software on your car. Sidenote: My Blackberry always connects in about a second.

Here ya go, sorry it took so long and the images are so bad, nothing real special either way. All I did was drill out the rounded off parts to be flat for the iPhone4. The tan dot is a felt furniture pad i cut down to fit the black spring in the middle, the phone won't 'pop' out when you press the eject thing if you don't extend it like this. I mainly just went by trial and error till it fit right and connected properly. Sorry if there are duplicates and ignore the picture of people doing there best to cut up a small tree with a toy chainsaw, dunno how that got in there.

Our iPhone 4 connected fine at first, but then we brought our MINI in for the 36000 mile service and were talked into doing a complete software update on the MINI in order to get rid of a rough idle upon deceleration. Now the bluetooth function doesn't work at all. It won't even find any phone to connect to. The dealer that did the work is saying that it is not possible that a complete software upgrade would have to do with the bluetooth malfunction, but the dealer that is looking at it now believes that there was a bad upgrade. They are fighting it out right now to see who will have to pay for this. Me or the dealer that did the upgrade. We live in California, and the dealer that did the software upgrade is in Wisconsin, so it isn't very easy to just drive back to the dealership.

Update:
The local dealership has changed their tune since talking to the Wisconsin dealership. They are both saying "there is no way possible" that a complete software update on the MINI would affect the bluetooth. It is just funny, because it worked fine before they did the update and now they are saying to fix it it will cost between $330 and $1400!
So in other words, I think we are screwed.
