I was thinking of buying a oem navigation for my 08 mini s and wanted to know if anyone has done that and if it would be plug and play and sync up with the rest of the car, also do you know where I might find and navigation for it? new or used?

Mmmm probably not. Something about how the harness is. Its kinda like retrofitting MSFW. It might be possible but you need to do the research and look at the parts and the requirements. Trust me I am trying MFSW and I am about to commit on the parts.

Check the "Navigation and Audio" forum. There is a person there who says he has ordered the parts, I'm not sure if he will try to install it himself or get the dealer to do it. I bet the labor cost would be huge.

Remember the "Nav" option includes new interfaces to the radio/CD and Bluetooth (if you have that), and most of the options that you set with the button on the turn signal lever. You would be replacing an awful lot of the dashboard rather than just plugging in one module. Then the dealer has to re-program the car to know Nav is installed.

There is also (on the Navigation forum) a "Sticky" with a download of the Nav user's manual. You should be able to see all the non-nav stuff that gets included. I also saw a post there that says you need the Auto-AC unit instead of the standard.

Some folks have suggested trading the car for one with Nav from the factory; likely to be less trouble - and cost - that way.

Keith.

There is a dealer installed OEM portable navigation that mounts on a bracket near the steering wheel. Do you mean that one or the factory Nav that replaces the speedometer? As others have said, the factory Nav would be prohibitively difficult and expensive to install. The portable version is plug and play, and integrated in the sense of power, antenna, and voice integration with the stereo.

Just a ballpark on new parts from the dealer...you are looking at $5,000+

It will probably be more, that wasnt factoring in the $2500 vehicle harness you may or may not need. And it will nickle and dime you to death, i'd bet.

Yeah, not worth it if you don't already have it.
