I'm curious if anyone knows if it is possible to mount the speedometer that comes with the GPS system on a mini without GPS? I think that it has a much cleaner look than the center mount. I know, the heritage of the mini has the speedometer in the center and yada yada yada. If the center-mounted speedometer were removed, the in-car storage space would be exponentially greater with that space. Does the GPS speedometer have all of the same features as the non-GPS speedometer? Or do some of the displays that are in the speedometer display through the GPS monitor? Also, does anyone have any idea of the cost of the replacement speedometer?

I had the same thought recently, but to achieve different ends. My thought was to move the speedometer to the center and use the center space as a place to mount multiple gauges (oil pressure, Oil temp, boost, EGT, etc.) I fear that it might be cost prohibitive, unless you can get the parts used.

I'm not positive what I would do with the space; satelite radio, storage, guages, etc. I do know that I've always wanted to try and work with fiberglass and this would be a great opportunity to mold my own pod. I asked the dealer and he didn't satisfy me with the answer. I need to ask the service writer or parts people to find out if it will work. Hopefully someone here will be able to help as the dealer, not just Mini, but all car dealers, are jerks when it comes to doing this type of mod.

I think it's a great idea.

I'm toy'n w/ adding a GPS and would like to remove the large center mounted speedo and replace it with the smaller one mounted next to the tach.
There would then be a large area...... to place a... quality.... aftermarket GPS unit.

Someone must have some info on this ????

Peace,
D

I believe that is not that hard, actually it will be just to get the part number and the mount for the two gauges on the steering wheel, and just to re run the wires.

I am thinking the same to do a little project.
NEED TO INSTALL

2 GPS A main One and a Back Up
2 TERRATRIP
1 screen for the onboard Computer
1 HP Large Screen Calc.

I love the Centro Speedo but I need a removable option to do this instalationf just for some weeks.

Cheers, and I Hope you all enjoyed the TURKEY. I AM STILL FULL!!!!!!!!!!
