Urban Mini Sub enclosure installed

WOOT! My Urbanmini enclosure just arrived! I wanted to put out a little pictures on my install and maybe they will help some other people decide if it is a good option for them.
Overall fit and finish? TOP NOTCH!

Storage area/amp rack? The size is pretty cramped (ok what part in the MINI isn't besides the driver and passenger seat?)

I found that my DD SS1a fits like a glove!
I did 2 slight modifications to the box to suit my needs, I added an aditional 1.5" hole in the front side for my RCA's and Gain control cable and enlarged on of the side vents for my power and ground. irmiger said he would most likely add these mods for future enclosures or something similar.
By the way did you notice the size of the speaker terminal?

To make my install easier to deal with I can grab the entire box out of the car in less than a minute no need for tools as I have quick disconnects all around.

The pictures that I have seen do not do this box justice.. Look at how thick this grill is!! I see no concerns with dropping stuff ontop of this enclosure!

irmiger/urban mini, Job well done!
Now gotta go adjust my settings on the amp to dial everything in!! Also you can't really tell but the power and ground are 4 gauge and the speaker wire is 12 gauge.

Any questions, feel free to ask!
David

Those are great pictures. What it is made of? Looks like hi density dign foam that i use at work...but it must be MDF?

I cheaped out a few weeks ago and decided to build my own "urban mini" to save money. BIG mistake i think...i have so many hours into this thing to try and get it right...plus it will never look as clean that.

Got any pictures of the woofer?

It seems like .5 MDF but it is braced everywhere and double baffled (maybe triple baffled) don't let the .5 MDF worry you, this thing really is solid. The woofer is a Sundown SD1v2. I have 5 of them including the one in the car.
These are great sounding subs, and pretty shallow

When I first installed the box, I dropped in a RE Audio SE 10 but it didn't sound as good as the Sundown so I dropped the sundown in and couldn't be happier!
By the way, I may be selling the RE

sweetness....i was looking at Sundown Audio 8's, as well as sound splinter 8's. But i was running into issues with mounting depth on the Sound Splinters and the SA 8's were out of stock. I ended up with a pair of Treo8's from CSS. its a new driver on the market and it sounds really good...but i am having trouble getting them sealed into my box.

If it does not work out i may end up with the same box and driver you are using.

thanks for the pics!!!

Not to highjack, but where'd you get the first aid kit? I can't find one anywhere.

Since I am in Germany, it comes with the car as it is a requirement to have one in every car

I must agree, this sub sounds incredible. If the SD1v2 were still available (I think I own 5% of the entire production of the SD1v2) I would not hesitate to recommend this combo! I still need to do a bit of tuning but it does get quite loud and REAL low!

I put it in a canvas bag and tossed it under the passenger seat.

Mine is in the garage. I run the runflats and have a slime kit so I am good without the Jack.

Hey gang, I picked up this enclosure from James at AMVIV last week, and I can definately say I am most impressed with the fit and finish, as well as James himself.

I bought it and of course immediately wanted to install it, James had me pull my car around, loan me some tools, even modified the vents to bring my RCA, Power and Ground lines in, had a rattle in the back plate of the amp so we took the amp out and he carpeted the interior of the amp compartment right then and there. Fantastic service.

The box itself is built really well. Appears to be cut on a CNC Router then assembled by hand, sanded finish, no glue leaking out or anything. The included wiring and terminals for the sub is a real nice touch, even pre-cut to make stripping the ends as simple as twisting.

The Amp compartment is vented, and roomy enough for most decent monoblocks, I run an older Alpine V12 300W and it had plenty of room left.

I dropped in a JL Audio 10w3v3 and had no issue with basket depth or mounting inside, and the grill is high enough that the surround and cone don't hit even at full excusrion. BTW James did say the box has .8 cu ft of space and can be tuned with polyfill.

Overall I have to say this is a great enclosure for the R56, definately looks stock and protects my gear while providing more usable space than a seperate enclosure.

I'm pretty inexperienced with car audio but i'm wondering if a JL audio 10 W7 would be overkill on a box like this?? Thanks.

Edit* This website is nice! Here's a link i found for recommended drivers:

What do you guys think about the w7 though?

I'm dying for James to finish up and bring the Clubman box into production.

I have plenty of room in the Volvo for my 2 12" subs, but I refuse to give up any space in the back of the Clubman.

I think i'm going to get this box. I want a ported enclosure. I want to run a JL w7 but the "speaker worksheet" has it as one of the worse sounding drivers. So can anyone recommend a sub? Thanks
