most people just keep the stock headunits since theyre so good, especially use Harmon Kardon guys...plus every CD player made these days seems to have a blue display....doesnt match the factory amber at all!

I have a Alpine CDA-9885 in my 05 MCS

I choose this model because you can change the color of buttons to red (default is blue). It doesn't quite match the stock amber/orange, but it's close enough for me.

I was looking at that head unit also...

Can it be installed in a 04 MCS w/ the H/K sound option? Do you need a special adapter to control the amp from teh head unit?

Thanks,

If you have the HK then the system is wired different. You need to rewire to the speakers.

I was thinking...

Of keeping the amp and speakers and just swapping out the H/U. Will teh alpin control teh H/K amp?

Thanks,

Have alpine system

04 s mini: put in a alpine 9885 head unit, with 6 1/2 spr17s in the doors, and 6x9 spr69c in the rear, with a jl audio subwoofer for the hatch made for the mini, with 2 amps pdx 4.100 and pdx 1.1000: has alpine hd radio and ipod in glove box with sirius radio. THE SOUND IS AMAZING!!!!! Have never turned all the way up @ 22 out of 40 on volume u can feel the sound waves hitting your head

I love Alpine, especially their headunits. I picked the PDX amps due to space restrictions but they seem to do the job. I'll never own any of their subs but their components are pretty good. Here are some pics.
