Nav System Unable to Read Map Because of Heat?

For the first time in 5-1/2 years lately my nav system has been unable to read the map DVD on my '04 MCS after the car has been parked outside for awhile in 100-plus degree days.

The system accesses a map perfectly while still parked inside my garage before I start out in the mornings. But after being parked outside in the excessive Texas heat I get error messages on my screen saying I should check my CD/DVD.

Has anyone else experienced this difficulty? Any ideas on how to correct this?

All comments will be appreciated. Thanks

Well, DVDs are plastic, so I suppose the map disc could warp a bit in the heat - it's consistant with your symptoms, anyway. You could try removing the DVD when you go to work and inserting it when you get in your car. That could eliminate the heat affecting the DVD vs. the nav unit.

I may have stumbled on a partial solution to my problem. Remembering that car interiors often put out pollutants into the air causing a hazy film to collect on window interiors, I wondered if this might be happening to my navigation DVD.

So I washed the DVD gently with a detergent soaked sponge and warm water. This has greatly lessened my problem -- but still, occasionally, the system has trouble reading the DVD.

QUESTION: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHETHER CLEANING THE DVD WITH ALCOHOL MIGHT HURT INFO IMBEDDED IN THE DVD ? ? ?

Thanks
