Navigation & Audio iPOD Interface Questions
iPOD Interface Questions
Hello all,
I recently purchased a used 2007 Mini Cooper S. It has the premium and sport package, but no navigation, bluetooth, nor iPOD interface. I have been trying to do some research as to the cost of adding the interface through dealers or self-installation. So far the cheapest dealer install I have found is $599 for parts and labor. A friend of mine suggested using the DICE unit, but from all that I have read it is not compatible with the 2007 Mini Cooper S. I am fairly competent when it comes to auto work, so I am not opposed to installing it myself if that is an option. Could someone help steer me in the right direction? Is there a cheaper alternative to the dealer install? Will they have to reprogram my Mini anyway? I'm totally lost here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aux input comes standard so you already have a simple connection available.
For the iPod adapter your cheapest option is to purchase the kit from a discount dealer such as Morristown MINI or Classic MINI, do a self install, and have it programmed by the dealer. See this thread for self installation: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post2017166 (starting post #27).

i'd not reccomend it. if you look around most of us don't really like the interface. it's a double edge sword. the ipod interface is very nice looking but doesn't work well when it comes to navigating the ipod. i'd use the aux if i was in your shoes. maybe put a apple dock in and run the line out to the aux in.
For the 07 there is only the iPod adapter that goes in the secrect compartment. It is horible to use and you are actually required to use a playlist type of setup as the adapter uses the CD interface forthe iPod and only allow for 6 discs (playlists). it is very dificult to use.
As others have said do some research and you will find everyone seems to hate the interface.

The really annoying thing about the 07 adapter is that it insists on starting from the beginning of the song each time. That would drive me crazy when making short trips. I solved that by using the iTunes preference to remember song position.
Before I worked out the remember position fix I hated the adapter and would have preferred the only Six playlist one (which Quentin had in 05), at least it could remember where you were in a song. I used a Griffin Autopilot instead. After the fix I get on quite well with the 07 adapter.
If I'd reaslised it was $500+ installed before asking them to put it in, I might not have bothered.
