iPod Touch w/factory interface

This weekend I picked up a new ipod touch since my ipod mini finally died. After loading it full of jams and a few apps(zombieville usa kicks ***) I went to hook it up in my mini and it wont charge or play songs.

Upon hooking it up it displayed an message saying "charging system not supported" and the stereo display recognized something was there but would play sound or toggle through tracks.

Do I need to get an software update, new interface or what?

EDIT: Btw its all attached to an 04 mcs 1/04 build

Thanks

Well, the factory iPod interface isn't going to charge the 2nd-generation iPod Touch without an adaptor, so what you're seeing there is normal.

I'm not sure why it's not playing music, though. Do you have pre-defined MINI playlists on your Touch? Or are you just hitting preset 6 on the head unit to play all of the tracks on the Touch?

I work for apple and theres an adapter we sell for $25 that converts the plug so that it will charge on the 2nd gen Touch, its a similar problem on the 4g NANO and the iphone 3g its an issue that they changed the adapter to 5v instead of 3v and i have also been told they rearranged the placement of the pins in the connector. But this should fix those issues.

Thanks for the info on the charging issue. I've heard that $25 plug has issues, has anyone tried it?

I just got the $25 Scosche "Passport" adapter plug a few days ago, and it works fine with my 3G iPhone and the factory iPod interface in my 2006.

buying right now. Does it just hold the charge or actually charge it up too?

It actually charges my iPhone, even if I'm playing music from the phone at the same time.
