Navigation & Audio Problem re-installing stock system
Problem re-installing stock system
Question. I sold someone my 2005 OEM radio in trade for $50 and a 2003 OEM radio, figuring I'd never need it unless I sold the car. Well, my in-dash DVD system died and in the mean time I figured I'd re-install the OEM. As soon as I plugged it in, it got power. Short version is that it seems with the ignition off, no keys in the lock, and doors open even, the radio gets power and works.
Is the old radio incompatible with the newer wiring?

When the ignition is turned off, it should also turn off automatically... so there may be a wiring problem with the signal wire for the ignition.
As a side test, try starting the car, leaving it running, and leaving the stereo on for over 20 minutes. If it turns itself off after 20 minutes even though the car is running, then it's definitely not getting the signal for the ignition status.
Ok so the signal wire is white with a red stripe and yellow dots. Figured that out. But now the problem is that some how/where the signal wire is getting 11.2 volts somewhere between the fuse box (which doesnt dist power till ign on) and the pins in the radio? Idk if it is even worth my time to try and back-track the problem or just re-route the wire from a different source. What do you guys think?

ok after fiddeling with it for a while longer, IT WAS THE FUSE!!!! It is so weird because i checked the fuse numerous times with the voltmeter(ign off and on) and it seemed to be working fine. but, somehow the power was arcing across the fuse?!?! changed the fuse and bumped it up to a 10 amp cause now the amp remote wire goes to it, and its fine. This is the first time I have ever seen this happen in my 6yrs of installing probably 100 car audio systems. WIERD
Yep...

Whether the car is on or off, pushing the radio on button will turn it on. Even if I've not started the car for hours. But it will turn itself off after 20 minutes. I hardly ever drive more than 20 minutes on this island, but now I know what to look into. Thanks guys.
Sorry for the delayed response as well. Being on this rock has made me a far less enthusastic motorer. 2 more years and back to the good ole mainland.
