I mean with the suction cup.

I'd be more worried about prolonged pushing at the screen of the Nav while mounted on the speedo. Could that eventually start to push the cover loose? I tried mounting on the speedo when I got the car and just didn't like that arrangement.

Also, it may not be legal to cover/obscure the speedo in any way, so that's a potential issue if you are ever pulled over.

not worried about it. Does not create enough of a vacuum to cause a problem and I don't have it on all the time. Only when I need it (which isn't all the often).

And as far as covering the speedo, etc. I can see it just fine and no place in the USA has a speed limit >80 mph. And you can put the speedo in the digital window on the tach. so not a problem.

I mounted mine on glass up snug against headliner to left of rear view mirror. I don't have to take my eyes away from the roadway, and seemed the logical place as the sun visor is basically useless except for the temporary holding of outgoing letter and photos of my dog, family and friends.....and since I can't see most traffic lights anyways, it has not been more problematic for me to have it there...

I purchased a dash mounted KUDA, but have not installed that yet. Right now hardwired and mounted next to the rear view you can't see the GPS from outside the car while next to it unless you walk around the front of the car and take a hard look at the windshield. When it's mounted on top of dash near the speedo with the Kuda, you can see it a mile away....

Out of sight - Out of Mind .....IMO.

in a second gen (2009 JCW) is there a reason the gps could not be mounted in behind the cup holders just under the pwr window controls (that psuedo cubby area)? I didnt know if the gps has to be up higher in open area to work. Any help /info would be great.

thanks,

MNIME

The better the "view" the Nuvi has of the open sky, the better it works -- that antenna thing...

That's why I like the 660(680) and the Kuda mount -- the antenna on the 6xx flips up, and it points out the windshield to the sky.

I have the built-in mount, so this is used for an iPhone.

It is a black plex disk that has a base that fits into the cup holder as a cup would. You could attach a suction cup to it. Or, use double-sided tape or glue to attach a mount.

The down side is that this is a long way from the windshield to be glancing for directions. I'd only do this if it was tied into the AUX port for audio instructions.

Here is a thread I posted about it when I was a NAM vendor.

Look up. I used the mounting disk that came with my Garmin Nuvi 360 and afixed it to the plastic panel on the roof liner that contains the sunroof switch, etc. on my '03. There was a field of solid plastic so it wouldn't interfere with anything that's already there. Then I use the suction cup mount upside down so the GPS is hanging from above. It's forward enough so I can see it with only a slight tilt of the head and close to my head so that pretty voice can still be heard over the stereo volume. Be sure to keep the disk and suction cup surface clean (or clean them before use) so you get a good connection and it doesn't drop on your handbrake/shifter console. The only downside I've found is charging. I have to find a way to route the charging cable up to it. I added an always-on power plug behind the rear center cupholder so that's where I charge it from. Normally, it's charged enough for the trip and I don't have to charge it en route.

I bought a Nuvi 350 and looked at mounts for a while. None really satisfied me so I was going to make one but wanted to play with placement first. So I stuck the suction disk that came with the Nuvi to the dash next to the tach and liked that placement a lot. What surprised me was that in a week the mount never fell off or budged. So I put a dab of silicone on the back of the disk and stuck it on the dash. It’s been there for over a month now. Hot or cold it has not come off. I also hardwired it in and added an external antenna to get it to lock on faster and be more accurate. Frankly I can’t think that anything could be better than this at least for me.
