My rear speakers have intermittently made a sound that as near as I can describe sounds like fingernails brushing across the paper part of the speaker along with a little muffled static. Occurs regardless of radio being on or off.

Yesterday the radio went off for a couple of seconds and came back on. Then it went off for good.

There is a "pop pop" every several seconds now in one or the other rear speakers. It alternates between the two, but not every time. Also every little while it emits a white noise for about half a second.

This occurs with the radio on or off.

Any suggestions? Amp, maybe? I do have a dice unit, come to think of it, and I will d/c it this evening to see what happens.

take it to a dealer. on my 04 mcS the rear speaker amp failed and it was replaced under warranty.

 

rick were you within or outside your warranty period. same thing happened to me yesterday :-( working fine then just no sound but headunit is alive and kicking.

 

i was within the standard warranty period. If you bought your car new, and you are outside of your warranty period, you may have more leverage with your dealer.
