Navigation & Audio Adding Bluetooth after delivery
Navigation & AudioAudio upgrades, bluetooth, and navigation discussions surrounding the Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs.
Hello everyone thank gosh I found your info. long story short we ordered a 2012 cooper S hardtop back in may 2012. today july 21st it came in and we picked it up here in San francisco bay area. Mini SF was awesome! one problem on are order everything we ordered came on the car, except the Bluetooth & USB.. This car was special ordered for my long time girlfriend which loves the bluetooth while she drives the long commute. This was vary hard to hear when i saw the steering wheel and said good it has bluetooth. Our salesman said nope you didn't order that. long story short I thought i did but no matter what looks like from all your info there is a factory retrofit kit to install the factory unit... my question is what are the updated part numbers I need and hopefully a dealer here in the SF bay area can do it. I am getting slammed for no bluetooth from my better half : ) any input thanks everyone
I think your out of luck guy.... Newer Mini's don't have the wireing harness set up for the bluetooth like they did before. For the dealer to retrofit the OEM bluetooth module in a car would cost $$$$.
Best bet would be to find a really good add on Bluetooth handsfree unit, like one that clips to the visor and hard wire it to the power in your car and use that. Unfortunately i tried that on my Fiance's old Mini and she hated it. So, we just got her a new 2012 mini and i told the salesperson, #1 option must have= Bluetooth ....
My company i work for makes the handsfree bluetooth module for BMW, i was hoping to hardwire one up in her old car, i had it working on the bench, but way too much work, easier to buy her a new mini...
For the 2011/2012 model years mini shows a retrofit kit that is listed as a Parrot 3100 or Parrot 3200 for use with MINI's that did not have OEM Bluetooth. There is even custom Gauge Style faces to be used with a few of them.
But the problem here is that i can not find pricing for it. you may have to call your dealer to get the pricing and they may have to call HQ or Germany to get the parts and price.
Also some place to look at is newministuff.com they sell kits for retrofitting bluetooth that in some ways are better than the OEM.
I have a 2009 hardtop that doesn't have bluetooth. All of this stuff looks complicated to do. What's the easiest and cheapest way to install bluetooth? I'm looking at the Parrot units at the moment.

First you can start by reading this thread. There are at least three options out there that are listed in posts of this thread. Parrot, Fiscon and MINI Retorfit or two types.
I recently picked up a second hand Telematics Bluetooth unit and controller from eBay USA, and have succesfully fitted it to my R50 chilli JCW. I did have to pick up the microphone from a seller in Germany (these are fairly generic BMW microphones)
The bluetooth telematics module Part number is 84110302896
The microphone part number is 84318380319, or 84110302900 works as well
The wiring loom did have the correct plugs, with a couple of exceptions. The main connection to the bluetooth module is in the loom below the radio, but you need to pop the 4 wires from the dash controller into this loom connectior (the white block where it enters the main control unit) , the microphone connection is in the roof just behind the two reading lamps.
I have the installation supplement guide with pinout assignments, the HK stereo connector pin out assignments, as well as pics of the parts I used
Hope this helps.
My kit works fine, except for the two buttons on the steering wheel. I assume since all the other connectors and loom were there, that the steering wheel would work as well, but it may have to be programmed etc?
I tried to install the kit yesterday (the MINI retrofit kit).
1. It seems that the cables are too long (especially the optical one). I think my routing was too short, I may need to re-route them again (?)
2. Is it safe to take out the chair?
3. I assumed my car has the diagnostics flash interface (optical) as I had these cables connected (?)
4. Why are the cables so 'sticky'?
5. It seems that grommet is way too thin (?)
6. Somehow the NCS xpert gets stuck trying to read the info from the car (It used to work with the same laptop!).
Similar , but the full MINI bluetooth kit i installed which is far more advanced then the simple version did not nee coding, its like a piggyback on the outputs that are there. Install it and see if it works. I did not code, neither has anyone else on the simple kits.
Are there more than one MINI R56 retrofit kits?
What is the simple one (?).
I installed it (Kit + a new ULF), but it doesn't appear. The radio does work but no BT.
I do need to retrofit the amp as well.
I used the manual posted on this thread.
Got it working
But i broke that white 'thing' under the driver's seat which holds the yellow connector.
Does it affect the sensors? Should I replace it to a new one or I can just tape it back?
Hello everyone, I just installed the Bluetooth kit in my 2010 R55, everything is working except the actual Bluetooth and phone buttons. I have full AUX and USB. But when and the phone shows up on the radio, but when I push the buttons for it or the buttons on the steering wheel, nothing happens. I had it programmed by a shop, and they said they where able to see everything but the ULF, the local MINI dealer said they could see the ULF, is there an easy way to figure out what might be wrong.
Something is not connected right, I would check the connection that goes to the steering wheel controls. Does your steering wheel controls button light up at night. Something not hooked up right.
