I have a co-worker who is interested in upgrading the speakers in his 04 S w/o HK. He wants to keep the head unit, but wants a bit more sound quality.

Any suggestions for drop in replacements?

 

You will probably want to check out Crutchfield.com and try to find something with a high sensitivity. The number will probably be listed as SPL or db. The higher the number, the more efficient they are with the energy put into them. Since the stock head-unit does not create a lot of power, you want to use all of it as best as possible.

You will be looking at component speakers, probably 5 1/4" for best factory fit. Something like Polk DB and Infinity Kappa have always been a nice "go to" replacement, but there are plenty of speakers out there to choose from. Find a price range you like, then try to find somewhere that you can audition them.
