New speakers to increase bass?

I just received my new clubman and I opted for the standard stereo, thinking the upgrade wasn't worth $500. So far I'm generally satisfied especially the front speakers I think are ok. However, the rear speakers are barely mediocre and I'd like to increase the bass tones overall. Should I replace the rear speakers to get extra bass (maybe a 2-way or 3-way speaker) or just add a subwoofer? I'd probably want to keep the cost under $200.

Any specific recommendations for speakers or subwoofer models?

Thanks.

Yeah, read that excellent thread if you have the basic system, especially if you want to keep the cost under $200. There's a lot of disassembly involved in replacing the rear 6X9 speakers (to put it mildly). You'll be hard pressed to just buy 2 speakers for $200. Just swapping the 4 inputs might just do the trick for you.

Doing the channel swap will improve things greatly.

I'd rate non-HiFi mods in this priority:

(1) Do the channel swap
(2) Replace 6.5 inch door speakers
(3) Replace 6x9 rear speakers
(4) Add a subwoofer

You can replace the 6x9 speakers in the rear, and the 6.5 inch door speakers for less than $200 combined. eBay is your friend -- that's where I got my (Polk) speakers.

And while it is a PITA to get to the 6x9s, you only have to do it once. Think of it as getting to know your car...

The Boss Audio boss600 is a one-piece integrated amp and 8 inch subwoofer. While some may hold their noses, it's inexpensive ($130 or less, check Amazon and eBay), easy to install, and works well in the Mini.

I just changed all my speakers with Pioneer premier series and added a 10" sub & a 4 channel amp.
If you only want more bass get a Sub & a mono Amp, if you also want more clear & detailed sound ,then replace all speakers with component speakers & a 4 channel amp to power fronts as well as the sub. See my gallery for pics.
