Any pictures of howto?

With the HiFi system you have tow pair of wire running to each door. One for the 4" and one for the 6.5"

If you have the standard system then there is only one set of wires.

BTW - It would help all of us in answering your questions if you would put some details of you car in your signature.
See mine or nicknbecka, or many others.

I have the non-hifi.
I read on the 1st mini that you can add more thin wires to the connector on the door (I guess that's how it's done in the hifi system).

I would also like to know with a non hifi system adding a second set of speaker wires, so I can run both Mids and tweeters after a Polk crossover which is way too big to fit in the door.

I mused about this in another thread -- look at the X256/X257 connectors, and the wiring differences between HiFi and non-HiFi systems -- the HiFi systems run 4 wires through the door connectors, separating the 5.6 and 4 inch drivers, where the non-HiFi uses 2 (different) wires. The big question is, how big of a PITA is it to get to the connectors, are they populated, etc. Inquiring minds want to know!

If I was going this route (and I've contemplated it), I'd get replacement "A" pillar covers with the tweeter mounts, and put tweeters there. While I've replaced the 6.5 inch speakers in the doors with better ones (Polk DB 651s) that have tweeters, I can't see putting really high quality tweeters where it's mostly my knees and calves that can hear them!

And the crossovers you're contemplating must be pretty big -- there's a couple inches of space behind my DB651s in the door (even with the window down).

Cheers--

Thanks for the comments . I read all your threads and as I wrote before your x9331 info was very very helpful (thanks again).

1. Look at this (old mini but looks the same:
http://www.newministuff.com/diy_folding_mirrors.htm

2. Actually I have scan speak r2904/70-0000 (hi end tweeters) in the upper mid place. They sound great. I just don't have mids instead of the 6.5 (yet, I bought a set of used utopia and the drivers are all rusted inside).

Personally I think the tweeter in the pillar is ugly (looks and design are more important to me than the sound), not to mention that I'm not sure there is a place there to fit hi-end tweeters.

3. Xovers: Look at the Alpine f#1 spx-Z15M for example (google image it) for example. Big xovers.

In the non-hi a tweeter in the pillar with no mid in the upper slot might not sound good enough (in general terms).

There are some nice small format tweeters that would mount in the A pillars, Dynaudio's MD102's, etc., obviously bxr510's Scan's wouldn't.

A pillars are convenient, but I don't like having so much distance between the tweets and mid/midbass drivers.

The doors however have the problem of pointing the drivers off axis. My left door drivers are more than 60 degrees off axis to my sitting position..

Some day I'll get a pair of Scanspeak 12m's and mount them in the a/c vents at the dash ends, and mount a pair of peerless 810921's or Hyquphon OW1's in custom enclosures just above, time aligned with the Scan's. The doors would get Dynaudio MW172's. With this setup I wouldn't need a sub in back, forgoing the trouble of matching phase while transitioning between the front stage and the sub. That's my dream setup for the Mini. ( I should mention I don't have the Hi-Fi system, and I will be running a processor after the OEM H.U., and multiple amps ).

As for running additional speaker wires to the stock door positions, this is something I'm about to tackle myself, and I'll be running Knukonceptz's Karma 12ga bi-wire..

http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDe...rodID=KAR124SS

This is a job not for the faint of heart, as this speaker wire is not small in diameter. I'll be boring holes in the door and sill ( Just below the OEM boot ) and sealing with grommets.
