as we all know the "boot" of a mini is TINY and becomes useless when filled with sub boxes... if your concerned with space, the 8's in the back factory location are PERFECT and most 8 inch subs can preform "open air" (without a sealed box.)

i work in a high end car audio shop, and get hands on time with a LOT of brands, from TMA, to dyneaudio and even Mcintosh

My Opinion's, having owned or had time with all of the below

MB quartz = really really bright speakers, so if your into super high high's they may be a good choice.

focal = super nice all around speakers, but also are $$$

Dyneaudio = my favorite, and can be found cheap-ish online

diamond audio = poor quality, poor sounding and easily blown out (unless you do go with the HEX series, but they are $$$)

JL = one of the best car audio companies, with gear that can take serious abuse.

Infinity = i hated them, and swapped them out after 3 days. were not clean sounding, the build quality seemed cheap as well.

polk = *see infinity

***all of the above are my own personal opinions, please dont be offended if you disagree, i am just trying to give the OP some angles to take in**

This sounds all fine and nice but I have some questions....

1. Wouldn't that be a great deal of bass in the back seat. I often have friends ride with me and I don't want to blow their ear drums out.

2. Wouldn't that take away a good deal of mid-range sound from the system?

3. Would I need a separate amp for those little 8 inchers?

1. you fit people in the back seat?!?!?

2. depending on the front speakers they will more then compensate for the lack of rears... the mini is small enough that a really nice pair of fronts (with proper amplification) would do that.

3. either way if your adding a sub, you will need another amp (unless you go with a 5 channel amp.

Guys, i have an '08 clubbie with the hifi. I too want to have a system installed. Looking to spend a few more dollars though. Would i be better off going with a 2-way component set or a 3 way? Was thinking the CDT's sound great. Also thinking of a 10" sub, glassed box in the wheelwell. The new JL HD amps, look like they have a great imprint. Next ? keeping the stock headunit do i need something like JL's Cleansweep?

^^ cleansweep will work, MTX reQ is nice, audiocontrol also makes some good stuff (lc6 is my fav.) or just a plain ol' LOC would suffice i suppose

Could I just stick those 8 inch subs in the trunk where the tool set is? Then replace all the speakers with speakers that would work with the stock amp? Or do I really need to get a new amp for the speakers too. If I need to get an amp for the speakers would I need a 4 channel amp for all those speakers or would I need to get more than one amp? Any info on those JL HD subs? Are the ZR series the best speakers the have?

if you want to keep your factory amp, you need to make sure the new speakers are the same impedance as the old ones... and yes, one four channel amp would work for your four interior speakers unless you want to bi-amp the fronts (give the tweeters there own channel) but if you do decide to go bi-amping your entering into an entire new league so to say!

the JL HD is there new line of amps, there is a 600/4 and a 750/1 both are relatively expensive, but nice amps.

the ZR's are JLs highest end speaker and are worth every penny IMO.

Well I have the Hifi sound system. So ten speakers.... I looked online although I am not understanding which speakers I will need. Could you help out. I am very ambivalent to trust sound people at like tweeter to tell me the right thing.

Also I just looked at the price of the ZR's, although they may be worth every penny. I do not have every penny. The C5's look like what I could pay for.

your speaker sizes are as follows:

Location_______Size__Depth

Front Speaker___6.5___3.5
Front Speaker____2____1.5
Front Tweeter____1_____2
Rear Speaker___6X9___3.5
Rear Tweeter____1_____1

you could do a 3 way set in the front and a 2 way set in the rear, 3 way speaker sets tend to be $$ and a really good pair of 2 ways (like the c5's) in the front would be more than enough (even though you would be losing two speakers [the 2" mid bass drivers] the difference between your factory installed and the C5's is HUGE)
